The Jack Palance Band was active in Chattanooga, TN and Dalton, GA from about 1998 to 2005. I'm not totally sure. I was around at the time and fell deeply in love with them. They recorded this with Dave Barbie and I fell like it is a rare moment where the energy and soul of a band is actually captured.
Not thrift stores... places where the dust is high and the prices are ... well unlabeled.

I'm re-organizing and improving my home studio. I spend a lot of time on drum sounds. I had a hard look at my kit.
The kick and toms come from the local junk shop... although they're solid. Swingstar and some miscellaneous, but tolerable toms...barely. The snare is an old ddrum snare that I bought because it looked siiick in that store in North Georgia. The one who told me: "you haven't lived until you've tried compression." I bought the kit the first time I had any money to spare that wasn't rent or records. I put a wide snare chain on it 14 years ago.
I did pay some money for my hi-hats, but they aren't that much nicer sounding than my old dinky ones. The other cymbals are a paiste ride from a beginners kit and an unknown ride that sound fantastic as a crash.. and a very shitty camber crash with an ever-growing crack.
When I record these drums, they sound fantastic.
To me.
I don't think you'd like them. But I've spent so much time learning them that parting with them would be very difficult. I also think that the only reason I've been able to make my drums sound interesting is because I'm compensating for sub-par instruments. If I had well tuned toms and exquisitely controlled high frequencies on the top end... I'd have to re-learn, and even re earn an interesting drum sound.
