A nice Message from a new reader

I just received a nice message from a tourist who came to Finland and sought out my book in a local bookstore.

I thought it was nice to hear the positive feedback and as a new author it helps boost the confidence some.

Here is the message:

Hello TJ,

My husband and I were passing through Kuopio last month (visiting from the Netherlands). I saw your post regarding your books before our holiday started and I instantly added Rosebud to our travel plans. Your story intrigued me as an American aspiring author living in Kuopio. Finland is a magical and inspiring country where time seems to flow a little slower.

Anyways I’ve just finished the first volume and it took my breath away! Such an emotional journey it was, I was deeply enthralled in the storylines. I enjoy your writing and your phrasing. I look forward to reading volume two.

Have a wonderful day.

Best regards, Sylvia

A Nice in depth review of my latest horror anthology

I got a really in depth review of my latest book of horror short stories and I thought it was great that the reader was able to come up with her own interpretations of the stories in ways I, as an author, may not have intended. It makes me feel good that people can look at my stories in different ways and come up with their own meanings.

So I wanted to share the feel good moment.

The following is the review:

Hi TJ

Keep in mind that I am not a writer so please try to overlook all my errors as you read my review

Congratulations on Volume 2 of The Horror Archives. It’s a great book!

I read it aloud to myself since that’s the best way I’ve found to check syntax and general readability. Not once did I have to re-read a sentence. Certainly have to give you an A++ there.

The poetry preceding each story was a great addition and very good!

Your character development is excellent!

And you definitely achieved your goal of scary stories.

Monika’s predicament in “Never Leave Home Without It” scared me the most. A victim of abuse, as often happens, she became abusive herself. To her credit she recognized kindness in the truck driver and decides to quit her job after she completes her assignment. Unfortunately she lacks the inner strength and with no support (insurance) she succumbed to an unknown fate like a lamb being led to the slaughter.

I saw abuses of children in two stories:

A demented father pushes his young son who is mourning the death of his mother into the occult in “The Bench, the Lamp and the Secret Eighth Stage of Alchemy;

A possibly gay son in “The Earglitter Killer” is turned into a killer to satisfy his unacceptable need for pretty things by his furious and unforgiving father.

My favorite story was “Iron and Blood”. Everyone has a need to belong…to fit in.

Poor socialization in childhood often causes bad outcomes. The overwhelming desire to belong blinded Minx to the dangers. We all need to acknowledge that there is a reckoning.

“Adventure Tours” is a perfect example of if it sounds too good to be true it probably is. Don’t be gullible!

To me, “The Lake” is a creation story. In the beginning everything was good. Cain killed his brother and evil took hold in the world. The Spirit tries to fix things. Despite his anger the Spirit remains with us. If we don’t change our evil ways what reckoning will we face?

TJ, Keep in mind that I’m a 78 year old female who, strangely enough, still enjoys science fiction. My guess is that the majority of your fans are much younger males. They may have a totally different take on these stories. I was interested to see if, aside from the great entertainment value, I learned anything. And yes, I did!

Again, congratulations on a great book.
