First lift

First lift

I did my first lash lift today, I used a kit. I like them but I’m hoping to get some constructive feedback back for next time. I used the smallest rod. I also bought babe lash serum to help grow them a bit more. What can I use to keep them moisturized and should I do anything special to help keep them curled? I did brush them a little after because they were so sticky from the glue but they haven’t seemed to have fallen yet.

What did you do after being a CNA?

I’m an aide on a medical unit, the company I work for will pay for schooling and encourage you to advance your career. Truthfully I’m not interested in nursing like I thought I’d be. I like healthcare though and love being an aide. It’s a lot and I’m still learning but I’m thinking about the future and what I could do. What did you do if you didn’t go on to be a nurse? There’s so many options out there I’m sure I don’t even know all of them.

Hospital nursing assistants

I’ve been on a medical unit for almost a month now. I do love the job. I love the patients and the work I do. I love my co workers. My trainer has been so amazing teaching me everything. I know the job now for the most part and I’ve been kinda on my own getting more patients to almost the full assignment while she’s just around if I need her. I have one week left 4 shifts before I’m off orientation and everything changes. I won’t be with the people I have been likely. I’m so nervous to be on my own. They’ve said they’re always there to help but I do need to gain some confidence. I’m trying to figure out time management a little better. I have a hard time telling a patient I need to get moving when they just wanna talk. I feel bad and just want to be their listening ear but there’s so much to do.
Also bathing all of them and getting bed changed and oral care. All of this after getting vitals and accus. Breakfast and getting them turned and propped or moving around. Honestly my biggest struggle is charting. I can chart most things especially using the brain but we have to chart on the odd hours and nurses do even hours. And I just find it hard having the time most days to sit there and go through all the categories and chart for all of the patients while I have fifty leven call bells going and I’m being pulled in every direction. They keep telling me it will come with time and I’m doing good for how new I am especially being brand new to health care but I’m so critical on myself and feel like I need to have it down pat perfect right now. I just feel useless sometimes. Does any one have any tips for a newbie being on their own?

Scrub Hell

I posted a week or so ago about mandala scrubs. I took the plunge and ordered a couple pairs. They were stretchy and comfy. I did make a mistake and ordered a size down for the wide leg pants. They fit and stretch but just a little too tight in the behind. But petite length was perfect for me being 5’3. I got a set of the fabletics for $15. At first I ordered an XL top and large joggers. Well the XL top was waaayyy too big. Like unprofessionally large and the joggers were so baggy and big. So I only sized down to large top and medium bottoms. Now they’re both too tight. How the hell does that make sense. Same style just one size smaller 🥲 the only 2 pairs I like are the kecols brand that are basically yoga material and fit like a dream. And I got a pair of beyond scrubs on marketplace and they’re comfy and perfect. Every other brand including cozy fit from Amazon is just awful and I feel like I’m suffocating in it or I’m drowning no in between. This is my first healthcare job so first time needing scrubs I’m used to being able to wear leggings and a Tshirt to work so I may just need to get used to it!
But once again, maybe any recs for scrubs that are comfy?

Looking for some advice for hospital CNA med surg

I should say I’m not technically a CNA, I have not taken classes or anything. I just applied as a nursing assistant at my local hospital. I really want to get my foot in the door of the medical field. I start mid July. They are sending me for my BLS and ekg training and a couple more days of training before I’m on the floor under someone else for 6 weeks. I just will not have my cert. I’ve always been in childcare. Babysitting or day cares. I’m so nervous because I really know nothing.. I’m terrified I will be no good at this job especially being med surg.
Does anyone have experience on med surg? What could I possibly expect, is there anything that could help me going into this? I’ll take any advice or friends..

How do we feel about mandala scrubs? These styles in particular. For reference I am 5’4 175lbs. A little bigger in my behind and thighs nothing crazy. I’ve been buying larges which is my normal size and they’re all too big

Dress code for hospital

I have not started yet, I start next month, I will be a nursing assistant on a medsurg unit. We are to wear ceil blue scrubs but that’s all I know. I’m sure it’s different for every hospital but are you allowed to wear sweaters or under scrubs and do they have to be a specific color? Like do I have to wear a ceil blue scrub jacket or could it be a light gray and my badge visible? I will be asking my manager closer to orientation but just curious

Ceil blue scrubs

I just got hired on the med surg unit for nursing assistant. We have to wear ceil blue and I’m finding literally every brand is damn near a different shade of ceil blue. I’d never be able to mix and match brands. I really liked those yoga-ish scrub pants from kecols but they’re just a totally off shade of blue I’m not sure if even be able to wear them. I got a pair of fabletics ones during the nurse sale and they are so wildly uncomfortable. What is the best brand, what fits you good. I’m finding it’s tight and loose and the same time for any pair I buy. I like something with a little stretch. For reference I can wear M/L for either tops or bottoms. M for a fitted look L for a little more room.

Negative nic test now positive

I quit smoking last Sunday, I was vaping for probably 3 years. I am going for a job that nicotine tests. I was testing negative on Monday of this week like very negative 2 bright lines. I have been using a 0% nicotine vape on the occasion when I’m really struggling. I got one that is 0 degree north 0% nicotine. And puffed some last night and today and now my tests are positive again. I’ve checked the packaging and it says 0% nic so I’m very confused. I’m a bit dehydrated I’d say but not terribly. Now I’m terrified. How long will this take to leave my system? I threw it out I’m done all together now. I was using a raz 0% vape and ended up testing negative but with this new vape I’m now positive.

Interview tomorrow!!

I have an interview tomorrow on the med surg floor of my local hospital. I have 0 experience in anything medical other than I’m taking a CCMA course online. I think I’d like to go into Nursing or even radiology. I’m really excited and nervous. I was told I can wear business casual or scrubs as I’ll be shadowing the floor for half an hour. What should I pick? I think I’m over thinking things but I just want to show them how interested I am, that I can learn fast. I have a passion for the field and it wouldn’t be a mistake to choose me. Any advice for someone with the jitters?

Urine cotinine test coming up

I quit vaping for a chance at my dream job at this hospital. I quit Sunday afternoon. I did buy a 0% nicotine vape to help me make it through the first few days. I feel ok now and don’t really reach for it as much as I did my other vape. But it’s supposed 0% nicotine. I’ve been testing my urine and I’m still very much positive for nicotine. Does anyone know the time frame for it leaving the system ? And does being in an ssri an benzo for anxiety disorder affect how quickly it can leave the system?

Interview guidance?

I have no experience other than I’m in an online course for medical assisting but was told to apply at my local hospital as a nurse aide. Don’t need any training they will train me upon hire. I really want this, so bad. The phone interview is Wednesday. What questions might they ask? How can I make myself seem like a good candidate? I believe I am but I have anxiety and sometimes things like this make me choke up. Any help is appreciated. I’ve been advised by others to ask a couple questions too.. I’m just not sure what to ask that’s appropriate I don’t want to be rude. I was thinking what are your aide to patient ratios? And also what opportunities do I have to advance my career here? I also put some of my strength and weaknesses. Like I’m very compassionate and work well with others. I have a passion for the medical field and learn very quickly. Weaknesses is I need a little direction in the beginning but once I’m confident in my abilities I’m very efficient. Any guidance?

Drug and nicotine test for hiring at the hospital

I have an interview on the Wednesday and if they like me an in person interview, and then I shadow for 4 hours. It’s through WellSpan and the drug test and nicotine test. I do vape so I should probably quit that now. But I also take lexapro and clonazepam daily for my anxiety disorder. .5mg of clonazepam. Does not affect my mental abilities at all just helps with the anxiety and I’ve been on it for months. Does that affect my chances? It’s kinda hard to just cold turkey quit a benzo but I take it as needed and some days I forget to take it because the lexapro mostly takes the anxiety away. Does anyone have any idea? Also does anyone know if it’s urine or blood testing for nicotine. I’m quitting regardless but I think it can stay in your blood for up to a month where as like a week in urine or 3 months for hair.

I hope this doesn’t break the rules I’m not asking for medical advice just if workplaces allow you take a medication if it is prescribed to you*

Phone interview for nursing aide at hospital

This is a bit of a follow up, I’m the one who was recruited in the ER while my husband was being seen. I applied for the med surg floor (only one available for days) I’m in school to be a CCMA but it’s all online. No hands on experience in anything. I’ve had my fair share of receiving medical care but not much giving it. I do work in a daycare so I’m used to taking care of others. Bodily fluids etc. I have a 30 minute phone interview on Wednesday. I’m not sure what questions to expect.. I’m not sure of my weaknesses and strengths. Honestly I kinda need direction at first like tell me what to do and I will do it. I catch on pretty quick. But it may be a weakness that I need told what to do. Strength is I’m very compassionate, I love connecting with people and making other people happy. I love helping. I’m curious about the medical field and would definitely be interested in advancing my career. Another weakness is I’m a mom of 2 littles and childcare may not always be easy I’m still trying to figure that out as we certainly can’t afford daycare prices. I love working with other people but I am scared of what people call “bitchy nurses or co workers” I don’t want to be involved in any drama I’m here for the patients, I’ve graduated high school I don’t need the drama. I feel like I may be a bit in over my head. What can I expect for the interview and maybe even working a med surg floor? My hospital all aides wear ceil blue scrubs the baby blue ones. What scrubs are your favorite but cost effective and where do you get them? I see a thousand brands on Amazon. Also what shoes are we wearing? Everyone talks about on clouds but I cannot drop that amount of money on shoes. Do they have to be white? Sorry for all the questions. I like to be well prepared. If there was anything that helped you please drop it below! And also I would kinda like to be a CNA not just an aide I’d like to be certified. If I’m working as an aide do I still need to do the classes to take the exam or after a certain amount of time can you just take the certification. Sorry for all the questions!!

Got recruited while visiting the ED

For context I’m not anything, I’m going a CCMA course online currently and have been wanting to get into the medical field. My husband has acute pancreatitis and gall stones were in the ED and while he was getting an MRI I had my work out. A nurse came by and just asked her about the order of draw and we got to talking. She told me I should apply at the hospital for nurse aide they’ll train me for everything don’t need schooling or nothing. I currently work at a daycare where my children go, and I want to do something else so bad, I love childcare but I’ve grown out of it. Anyways she even told her bosses while I was there and they said to apply asap. So I did put one in but it was for the med/surg floor which my husband is now on since he needs his gallbladder out. Anyone else a nurse aide in a hospital? What’s it like? Is it easy to catch on? I’m very much a hands on learner so this online course has been kicking my butt because I can’t do anything in person.

Pharmacology

For the medication aspect, was there anything that helped you like a book or study guide? I’m doing clinical skills institute and not sure if they go over much of the medications. I’ve been doing practice questions and it’s a lot of pharmacology and I have 0 idea!

Aspiring CCMA/CNA

I love the field. I love people and helping people. I’m in an online class for my CCMA now but unfortunately being 100% online I have no hands on skills. So I was also thinking why not also go for my CNA. There’s a 6 week course I can take in person. Which would require me to quit my job which scares me with 2 kids. But I really want to do it. The company I’m looking into does tuition reimbursement so I’d have to pay the $1,500 out of pocket. I wish I could find a hybrid program that could work a little better with my schedule for now. Any advice?

I just started my CCMA course today

I just started my course through career skills institute. Made it through medical terminology and on anatomy and physiology.. anybody else just start and wanna buddies through this? I’m in childcare currently and a mom of 2 littles so this is very new but I want to change my career.. I have a passion for the medical field but honestly hoping my brain can comprehend it all! I can be very forgetful so I’m a little worried but I’m so determined to do this. Any advice for someone just starting out and with no medical background?

My options being in PA

I’m looking to get my foot in the door in the medical field. I was initially interested in my CNA for end goal of LPN or RN. But I have 2 kids fairly young and starting elementary school and I kind of need a more Monday-Friday type job like an office setting. So I’m reading MA is the way to go. I know pay isn’t great but I only make $16 at a daycare currently. But I don’t have room to grow here.
My question is how do I go about going for my MA? Is it something I can do online? I see tons of programs online but then read to be careful because of them not being fully accredited. But I’d also like to not spend $8k at our community college for a certificate that honestly won’t get me far. I just need a stepping stone. I’m so very new to this but have a passion to go into the medical field. I’m hoping someone might be able to guide me in the most cost effective way.. I can’t really just go to class every day while working full time.. I’d need to be able to do it online or at least hybrid. I’m sure this sounds silly I’m just not sure what to do. Any advice is appreciated
