Olivia and Versaille

I was just watching the music video for Drop dead and realized how wild it is that people are judging "singing about a silly little girl crush in one of the most prestigious places in the world".

Like do people know the story behind Versaille? Louis 14th had such a big ego he couldn't handle that Paris was getting so big so he built a huge castle further away to show how rich and powerful he was. The intent behind this castle is petty as fuck, let the rich girl sing about her little crush in there, it's kind of on brand.

Mispronouncing Manon's name is not a microagression

Disclaimer: not commenting on any other form of racism she might face, just the name thing.

Recently Manon posted that it was nice to have her name pronounced well in Paris and I think people are thinking too hard over this.

I can relate I'm a francophone in Canada and very few people can say my name right. I go by a nickname because I'd rather not have my name butchered haha, it's nice to hear when I go back home.

However, I've also studied phonetics and articulation and I know to not take it personally when people mispronounce the sounds in my name that are not in their native language.

Nasal vowels (the -on part of Manon) are made by lowering the velum (your soft palate) so that the airflow that is creating the sound is resonating in the nasal cavity instead of the mouth. This is natural to do when you speak German, French or another language with nasal vowels.

We learn as kids to move our mouths to make all the sounds of our native language(s) and it's a lot harder to relearn this as an adult. You can learn through practice but some people have an easier time than others.

PS : Also, this doesn't mean it can't be racist to not bother learning someone's name, I just don't think it's the case here you know.

PPS: The girls in the group took a pretty long time to get it right too. I think Sophia says it best

Edit: this post was mainly refering to accusations that Missy gets for this. And guys trust she says it pretty well by my standard. Not quite native, but totally acceptable!

My childhood dog died today and he's still the one who got pissed off and stopped answering for the night

Literally the dumbest thing won't even bother explaining. I'm in a new city (not the same as him) and I feel so lonely my main daily communication is online and it's toxic a lot of the time.

Today I said goodbye to my childhood dog over video call and spent the evening on the phone with my friend (aka my ex from many years ago that I convinced myself I could let back into my life because it had been so long and I was moving) . It ended in a big fight as it often does with us. When we do fight it feels so intense because Im new in the city I can't call up a friend to talk about it.

He'll be fine tomorrow and move on. But now I know that his emotions were more important than my grief and that sucks. And it sucks that I spent almost as much time crying over our fight than over my dog being put down.

I know I need to drop him soon, but man it's so hard and obviously it's not all bad before the fight he was on discord with me watching one of my favourite shows just to cheer me up. I feel stupid having been reeled back in, I should have known better and now it feels like I cant undo it and I can't talk about it to friends because they told me so
