Let me know if the link works for you! Here is my updated collection since last time I posted this. More charts, and a few small edits on a few charts to clean them up. Everything from Stevie Wonder, to David Bowie, to Grateful Dead, Nirvana, Pink Floyd, etc… Fully notated bass charts unless it’s a super easy/basic part when I included a chord chart instead. Plenty of practice material or material for a cover band. Enjoy!

Matt Smiley - Forever

I have a new modern jazz album release as a bassist, composer and bandleader, new pieces for octet. I have a nice bass solo feature on the track “Dice Games, Part Two,” which is a suite for improvisers inspired by Ornette Coleman’s Free Jazz Double Quartet.

Matt Smiley - Hemphill A.D.

I have a new album that releases today, featuring modern jazz compositions for octet. This is a tune that is a tribute to Julius Hemphill and features great solos by David Pope and Briana Harris on saxophones. Enjoy!

Matt Smiley Large Ensemble - John Zorn's Cobra

In Colorado earlier this month I put on an 11 piece performance of John Zorn’s Cobra, a piece I’ve been performing and teaching since 2008. I’ve been a Zorn fan for years, transcribing and performing hundreds of Masada tunes, Naked City tunes, Filmworks music, learning some of the Book of Heads etudes, and game pieces like Cobra, Lacrosse, and Archery. This was a great performance by a top notch band of improvisers.

Emily Remler - Catwalk

I was going down a John D’Earth rabbit hole (undersung Virginia trumpet player that taught at UVA for years), and found two mid 1980s records with him and Emily Remler. D’earth’s discography is sparse but he’s one of the true great trumpet improvisers if you can find recordings of him.
