maybe 4-ish years ago, i read an adaptation of the story of Clytemnestra, in the style of Circe by Madeline Miller, Stone Blind by Natalie Haynes, etc. the one thing i remember most strongly about it is that the first chapter starts in media res at the sacrifice of Iphigenia, before going back in time to tell the earlier parts of her life- therefore it cannot be A Thousand Ships or Clytemnestra. thanks in advance for anyone who can help me out- any clues are appreciated!

I see a lot of people assuming that Nikki’s real self is trapped in some sort of hell or purgatory, due to the customer service rep letting Bear listen to her scream over the phone. It’s my opinion that that’s wrong and there’s a very simple explanation for why she’s screaming like that (most painful part of the movie for me besides the final seconds).
If you watch interviews, Barker and Navarette both describe Nikki as being trapped inside herself while something else (imo a constructed personality, no possession and especially not a demon) pilots the body, as she looks out from behind a veil. So, Nikki is still trapped in her body with no control over it. On the day Bear makes the phone call, that morning Nikki taped the door shut, then he left for work for a full day’s shift, and we can see that she freezes once he leaves and doesn’t move until he comes home, not even to piss or vomit. And Bear makes the phone call after he comes home but before he goes inside, so presumably, she is still standing there frozen while he’s on the phone.
Well idk if you have ever tried to stand completely still in one place for 9 or 10 hours, but without extensive training it would be almost impossible. Nikki doesn’t have to go to hell to experience hell. She’s trapped in her body unable to control it and is experiencing the immense pain and torture of being forced to stand unmoving for several hours. She’s probably hungry, thirsty, exhausted, in tremendous pain, she’s soiled herself etc. That’s actually almost unbearable if you think about it. Even if she isn’t actively conscious, i believe she is still subconsciously experiencing it, or maybe she is screaming so painfully because she’s trying to break free to help herself and get out of that situation.
Idk this has always seemed completely straightforward and obvious to me so idk why the consensus seems to be that her soul gets plucked from her body and put in Hell or a purgatory somewhere.
