I’m Convinced Flies are a PsyOp

Has anyone even actually seen them? Or does Nintendo simply want us to think they exist so we spend days, weeks, maybe even months searching for them, thus drastically increasing our playtime and crafting an illicit falsehood about the game’s popularity?

But seriously, I can’t catch a damn fly to save my life. It’s the only bug I haven’t caught and it’s driving me insane. I’m out here scattering trash like breadcrumbs but these dirty ducks won’t spawn. I know some people have had better luck with turnips, but all I get with turnips is ants. I tried the “trash near a building” tactic to go in and out and reset bug spawns but I’ve spent hours doing that and the flies continue to elude me. The trash is meticulously placed with plenty of space between each one, all on grass exclusively, never in rain or snow— and yet I am still here, still flyless.

MPH focus on systems change and SUD-related criminal justice reform/policy change?

I’m starting my last year of an online BSW program at Portland State University this fall and trying to figure out how I want to move forward with a graduate program. I’ve worked in public health (adpep coordinator) for the last 3 years. When I started this job it wasn’t something I was particularly interested in, but over time I’ve kind of discovered that I really love work that relates to systems change and advocacy for criminal justice reform regarding things like substance use and addiction.

Initially I planned to apply for the MSW program but I’ve been reevaluating how I want to move forward with my education so I can shift my professional focus to that kind of work. My supervisor encouraged me to look into an MPH (which is what she has, and we share similar sentiments regarding systems change and criminal justice reform). I guess I’m wondering, would Public Health be a good graduate program for the path that I’d like to go down professionally? With PSU I’d be limited to specifically Public Health Practice because I’m fully online (I live like 5-6 hours away from Portland) and I don’t want to commit to a program that won’t actually help me move forward the way I hope to, professionally. I think systems work and related policy work should have strong roots in public health and social work ideology but I don’t want to limit my options choosing the wrong thing.

Misprint or fake?

I don’t know much about Pokémon cards but my boyfriend recently got back into collecting them. He found a card he wanted to buy but I think it may be fake. I’ve looked into it as much as I can and haven’t been able to find any mention of a misprint like this (and I thought it was a little weird that there weren’t photos of the entire card, only sections of it).

I know Mew black star promo #9 is holo and Mew black star promo #8 is not holo. This card is supposedly a Mew black star promo #8 that is holo?

Like I said, I know very little here but it seems fake and I wanted to ask people who know more than I do.

Carl keeps telling me to shut up

Behavioral question because I’m at a loss.

Some background here. Carl was my 15-year-old cousin’s cat. Some family tragedy recently occurred and now my cousin lives with my parents and my cousin’s cat lives with me because she was desperate not to fully get rid of Carl.

Carl is around a year old, only has about 3/4 of her tail, and she just got treated for ear mites, fleas, and had a spay-abort 8 days ago (we found out she was pregnant a few days after we got her set up here). She’s been with me for a little over 2 weeks now. I live with my partner and our friend/roommate, and all of us have cats. We love cats. We have established a fragile ecosystem of tolerance between our cats. Carl has therefore been sequestered to my bedroom since she got here so we can properly integrate her after she’s recovered.

All of this is relevant because I’m looking for advice or answers regarding a behavior she exhibits. She has gone through a lot in a short amount of time and she’s often isolated because all three of us work full time. I spend as much time as I can with her outside of work.

Onto the weirdness: I literally don’t know how to describe this other than, it seems like Carl is constantly telling me to shut up. After she settled in more, she’s been doing this thing where she gets in my face when I’m talking to other people. She climbs up my chest or my shoulder and she rubs her face and teeth all over my face, and sometimes she’ll bite (sort of gently) my chin and my cheeks. She doesn’t do this when I talk to her (which I do a lot). She only does this when I am talking to other people who are physically in my bedroom or when I’m talking to someone on the phone. She will be fully asleep and my partner and I will be watching a show in bed and if I pause to say something to my partner, she yells at me and gets up just to (seemingly????) shut me up.

I have never met a cat that does this. She seems to like me— she tucks herself next to me when she sleeps and generally lays against me when I sleep at night, she’s not mean or aggressive toward me. But I’m baffled. Has anyone ever seen anything like this before/maybe knows why she does this?

Rare Mystery Islands Hate Me

I’ve been desperately trying to find a Big Fish mystery island for days now. I’ve used 72 nook miles tickets in this endeavor just in the last 3 days 🙃 I keep getting the same 5-6 islands over and over again and it’s driving me nuts. It’s always the two normal islands, spiral island, fidget spinner island, bamboo island, or fruit island. I’ve gotten the curly island like 7 times as well which is supposedly also rare? But literally nothing else.

I know the rare islands have really low chances and it’s basically random but this feels so absurd and I’m losing my mind 😭

The Sea Bass is My Mortal Enemy

I hate this fish so much. It is the actual bane of my existence. I feel like reverse Captain Ahab wherein I am deeply fixated on NEVER seeing or catching this nightmare fish again. I would rather face 100 scorpions every day for as long as I play this game than see even one (1!) more sea bass on my switch screen.

IV in the same spot every session

I was scheduled for IV Ketamine for treatment resistant depression and OCD, once per week for 6 weeks. I’ve completed 3 of my sessions (scheduled every Friday) and so far they’ve put my IV in the same spot on the same arm every time. I’ve started to get more significant bruising after each session and right now I have some soreness, bruising, and a hard bump at the site where the IV came out. Is it typical for the IV to be in the same spot every session? It seems like the setup where I’m receiving my infusions has everything on the left side of the room, so it always goes in my left arm. I just wondered if this was normal/what other people’s experiences were, or if I should bring this up at my next appointment.

And I’m trying to figure out how best to incorporate them into my routine. I’d read that it’s best to put them on before you apply any other product, so what I’m doing now is cleanser, patches, serum, moisturizer. Does it impact their effectiveness if the moisturizer ends up on top of the patches? I do my best to avoid them when I’m putting it on but it’s kind of inevitable sometimes.

I had my first infusion on Friday last week and I went to the bathroom as soon as I got to the clinic, so I thought I’d be okay. 20-30 minutes later we started the infusion, about 10 minutes in I realized I had to pee, and by the end of it I had to pee so bad it hurt and the pain overwhelmed my entire body and pulled the focus from the last 15-20 minutes of the ketamine experience. I was clenching and tapping the table to try and focus on holding it until they got the IV out of me.

Basically I’m wondering— if I avoid all fluids for 3-4 hours before my next infusion this Friday, can I avoid repeating this? I was already anxious going into these appointments and while the first infusion wasn’t bad (besides the excruciating need to pee) I’m very apprehensive that this will happen again and either ruin my next infusion experience or that I might just straight up piss my pants right there in the office.
