Max Payne, Half Life and Resident Evil 2-3

Anyone else get the vibe they’re all in the same universe?

Edit: I think it’s because these three games are from the same era. I played them one after another as a kid, and it kinda felt like they were all telling one big shared story from different angles. Weird because Hitman and Quake 2 were also among the games I played during that era, but I don’t get that vibe from these two.

Basic argue could be evaded, but I (36M) nuked my relationship with my girlfriend (34F) with this message.

To start, I’d like to give a brief background about my relationship with her. Please don’t judge this part.

We’ve known each other since 2014. She used to be the girlfriend of a friend of mine, though he wasn’t a close friend. They broke up about five or six years ago. Since then, she and I had been talking regularly on social media. She was always somewhat flirty, although I wasn’t really into her at the time for the obvious reasons I just mentioned.

Last year, she told me about her vacation plans. I said, “Let’s go together,” and she immediately agreed. She wasn’t doing well financially, so I paid for the whole trip. In the meantime, we had to postpone the vacation twice: first by two months, then by another two months. We finally met last April at a mediterranean resort hotel.

I won’t go into too much detail, but I’d like to explain the main issue. I arranged what she herself described as a perfect vacation, but during the trip, she treated me horribly. At the same time despite her strange behavior, I fell in love for the first time in my life. She was simply ghosting me. Never felt so bad all my life. And she didn't give a shit. Asked her few times "honestly, what's the problem?". She was saying nothing, all good, what can be the problem, sorry I don't understand bla bla.

Afterwards we kept communicating on social media even more intensely than before. She kept apologizing for how she had treated me during the vacation.

Then, one evening, she posted a photo on her story that felt much more provocative than her usual posts. We had a small argument about it, and eventually she sent me a message saying, “I know the last time we met didn’t go well, but I promise it will be much better the next time we meet.”

After reading that last message, I think I was gone a little insane (mostly against my own ego) and sent her this message. (She said "I don't want to reply this. And everything returned to normal, we are still making "plans" for the future. However, I want to hear something about where this relationship is going to... and I'm 100% sure things I said below will echo someday)

>"You didn’t share such photos before. Why now? Anyway I regret asking you to delete it. Who am I to ask this? Who am I to limit you or crticize you? The meeting you say… no, it went exactly like how I expected. First, I’m not an attractive man. I’m not in your league. I know this. I knew this. You were disappointed, after all those fancy (I HAD TO CENSORE THIS), cool things bla bla. You thought you were going to see a cool guy, rather you got a fragile, weak, unattractive, emotional, childlike, tired, war-torn, insecure, aggressive and jealous guy. I’m not like any man you ever had relationship. Not handsome, not charismatic. Not? You don’t even have slightest sexual desire towards me, which I well understand. Because of these facts I just mentioned. We had sex, but you were drunk and you didn’t even like it. You probably disgusted of me. Probably you even wanted to puke. That’s all. You wouldn’t even tolerate me without alcohol. Not just 1-2 shots. You needed a lot of alcohol. Next time we meet? Yes I’m crawling for that. I want soonest possible. But I will not touch you. Just like I didn’t touch you, at the third day of our vacation. There was like a million miles between us though you were next to me. Never felt myself so distant from anything in my life, not in the (...), not in the middle (...), I swear. I’m not a real man to be honest. But I have dignity and honor. And you can’t imagine how painful it is to leave behind every value of me just for a little intimacy back then. We will be two good friends and companions and that’s all. Aren’t these what you want at all?"

Why people avoid taking shelter? Gf refuses to take shelter

EDIT: Thanks a lot everyone. Stay safe out there! 🇺🇦🙏✌️

_______

We’re in a long-distance relationship. We’ve known each other for over 10 years. She loves Kyiv a lot and doesn’t want to leave, except for short trips. Either I go to Kyiv, or she comes to visit me.

I know the last four years of war have been extremely stressful for Ukrainians. What I don’t understand is how I can convince her to take shelter during attacks.

I feel like a jerk telling her what to do, like “stay in the hallway” or “go to a shelter,” because obviously she already knows all of that. But she is very stubborn, and I think she is just exhausted from all this. I honestly can’t live with the thought of anything happening to her.

So I want to ask: is this common in Kyiv? Do many people refuse to go to shelters? Why would someone avoid shelters during air raids? Are the shelters bad? Is it dangerous or inconvenient to travel to them during an alert? What could be the reason?

She is very closed off and doesn’t always explain what she feels, so I’m trying to understand the psychology behind this. Maybe there are people here with the same mindset as her, or people who know someone like this someone who refuses to go to shelters even though they know the danger.

I don’t want to judge her. I just want to understand what might be going on in her mind, and how I can support her without sounding like I’m giving orders from far away.

Girlfriend for more than 10 years living in Ukraine and although she can, she is so proud to leave her country. She is living alone, have a work and doing pretty ok with her life. But I feel so bad worrying for her everyday with every air alert and whatever the shit russians cause. I’m no rich guy, I can’t offer her a rich and prosperious life to charm her into leaving Ukraine for a safe country. Even if I had, I would not push hard because I love her with her proud attitude.

So, I would like to volunteer into foreign legion, if it’s still active. I have served 12 months in army, can use AK-47 and pretty interested in arms. Graduated from military school though never had military career. 38 years old. I have knowledge about military formations, combat tactics (ie fire maneuver etc), history, some language skills, computer skills, interested in civilian aviation. Any unit or branch they assign me, I’m ok. Frontline or logistics all ok. This is not something like “I have nothing left to do”. On the contrary, I have high morale and I want to have a role in the future of her country. Going to apply online, but is there any faster option? How often can I get to see her there? Despite being unmarried, can I make her get the injury/death compensation in case of a bad scenario?
