Deer hit , what should I be aware of with insurance repair

Unfortunately we have hit a deer last week ( sorry for the 🦌 ) and damaged our car, we are all doing good , thanks to our Cx9. So I have dropped the car at collision center and the estimate came in as mostly cosmetic and $3500 Canadian, covered by insurance except deductible. This is my first time involving in with insurance and such a large repair , based on your experiences how large is the impact and what should I be aware while dealing with repair center

Preferred Mazda-experienced collision repair shops in Ottawa, Ontario,Canada ? (Deer collision claim)

Hello All, unfortunately, we hit a deer yesterday . Thankfully everyone in the family is okay, though we are all a bit shaken up and feeling terribly sad for the deer.

Our car sustained some driver-side front bumper and fender damage, and we’re going through insurance (comprehensive claim) to get it fixed. Since it’s a Mazda, I want to make sure the shop handles OEM parts and sensor/radar recalibrations properly.

Has anyone had good (or bad) experiences with local collision centres for Mazda repairs? Would love to hear your suggestions or feedback before picking a shop. Thanks in advance!

Best way to cross Rainbow Bridge from BUF without a car? (4 adults and kids, carry-on bags only)

Hi everyone,
I have 4 family members (US residents) flying into Buffalo (BUF) soon. I'll be driving down from the Toronto side to meet them in Niagara Falls, ON.

Their plan is to get from BUF to the Rainbow Bridge, cross the border, and then rent a car once they are in Canada. They will only have light carry-on bags (no heavy checked luggage), so we are trying to figure out the easiest logistics.

A few questions for locals or frequent border crossers:

  1. What’s the most cost-effective/easiest way for 4 adults to get from BUF to the US pedestrian entrance of the Rainbow Bridge?

  2. Since their bags are light, is walking across the bridge the most efficient option here?

Thanks in advance!

My neighbor’s roof was struck by lightning. Can you help me figure out what should I do?

Hello everyone , we live in a row townhouse with 6 units . Our neighbours ( end unit) has stuck with thunderstorm the other night and seems to have damaged the roof ( please see the pictures , take by fire brigade ) . I am sure the entire block is fortunate enough to see it is not major, we are out of town and firefighters said after checking neighbours attic that there is no impact, my unit is 2 feet from impacted area and I am thinking what all I need to get checked so there is no damage.

One thing to note though , HRV in the entire block seems to the broken (I am surprised how that is possible) and couple of neighbours lost few small appliances ( microwaves , toasters, cameras etc )and I need to check mine once I am back home

Moving from Methotrexate to Skyrizi next month – Did your doctor overlap both, and what should I expect?

Hi everyone,
I will be taking my first dose of Skyrizi next month after being on Methotrexate for the last 6 months.

My rheumatologist has advised me to continue taking Methotrexate in parallel for another 3 to 6 months during the transition. I'm curious if this overlap period is standard practice based on your experiences. For those who switched:

  1. How long did you continue Methotrexate after starting Skyrizi? Did you taper off, or stop cold turkey once the Skyrizi fully kicked in?

  2. What should I note or prepare for before my first Skyrizi dose? (e.g., side effects on loading doses, injection tips, or timing it around work/weekends).

Thank you !

Why is the pay range for IT in Canada so low? I’d love to hear your thoughts on this.

This role exemplifies exploitation and underpayment.

Here’s the job listing:

https://careers.opentext.com/us/en/job/52107/Sr-Cloud-Service-Manager

The position demands 5-10 years of experience, with a pay range of 72-108k CAD, translating to approximately 51k-77k USD. An entry-level Analyst role offers a pay range of 60-80k USD, if that’s relevant.

I’m not even considering taxes.

Minto jacking up prices by $100k right after HST Rebate, your thoughts?

Hey everyone,
I’ve been tracking new build prices in the city and wanted to see if anyone else is noticing this blatant price-gouging, or if I’m missing something here.

I’ve been watching Minto’s Waverley 4-Bedroom w/ Guest Suite model in Barrhaven (Harmony).

Here is the timeline of what’s happened over just the last few months:

-before HSTrebate : A friend of mine locked this exact model in for $840k.
-April: Right after the government announced the new HST rebates for new builds, Minto adjusted the starting price to $864k. Fine, typical market movement, right?
-This Weekend: They just dropped their new pricing for a weekend sale event, and the exact same model is now listed starting at $974,900 (screenshot attached).

That is a $110k jump from their updated April price in the span of just a few weeks, and nearly $145k more than what it was selling for in February.

It feels like the moment the government steps in to try and give buyers a break with tax rebates, builders immediately inflate their base prices to absorb that extra room, completely wiping out any benefit for the consumer. In the end, the buyer gets absolutely crushed while corporate profits get protected.

Does the government or any regulatory body actually keep tabs on these sudden, massive artificial spikes right before "sale events"? Or is the new build market in Ottawa just a complete wild west right now?

Would love to hear your thoughts or if anyone else has observed similar massive jumps with other builders recently.

Hey everyone, looking for some advice on my 2021 MazdaCX9 GT (CPO). I’m currently at 85k KM.

Last year (at 70k KM), the dealer replaced my front pads for $850 CAD. At that time, they mentioned my rear pads were at 3–4mm. Now that I’m in for service at 85k KM, they are recommending two things:

  1. Spark Plug Replacement ($500 CAD): Is this actually necessary at 85k KM? The car drives fine, but I want to keep the CPO warranty happy.
  2. Rear Brake Pads ($750 CAD): I haven't noticed any squealing or braking issues yet, but I assume they're low based on last year's report.

The catch: I’m not a DIY person, but $1,250 + tax feels steep.

• Does the Spark Plug interval sound right for this mileage?
• Are there better alternatives for pricing in Canada (chains vs. local indy shops)?
• If I can only afford one right now, which is the priority?

TIA

Many are likely in similar situations, especially those in the delivery lead career path. If you’re being realigned from an industry practice to digital core , how will this truly impact your career growth? I’m concerned we need to restart our growth discussions, as leadership is changing and the group you’ll be compared to will also be different.

Just came off a leadership call in Canada, and it feels like there’s still a lot of uncertainty. It seems we’re going to lose another or two PA cycles, which is already a problem from the last two to three years.

Ps - I understand the June cycle is still aligned with old structure.

Hi everyone,

I have an LIC policy reaching maturity soon, and the agent has asked for the original policy documents along with KYC for the NEFT transfer. I’m looking for some advice from anyone who has been in a similar situation regarding OCI/NRI status.

The Situation:

Status: I am now an OCI holder.

KYC Gap: My PAN is still registered as "Resident" status, and I haven't updated it to OCI yet. I still have my Aadhaar as well.

Amount: The maturity amount is less than ₹5 Lakhs.

Question:

Has anyone successfully processed their maturity claim using their existing Resident PAN and Aadhaar while being an OCI?

I’m trying to decide if I should:

  1. Go ahead and submit the current Resident KYC to get the NEFT done (given the amount is < 5L).

  2. Or, stop and update my PAN to OCI status and inform the bank/LIC of the status change before submitting the claim.

Note - I am in process of converting my resident savings account to NRO and held up due to my DMAT account having some dormant stocks.

I’m concerned about potential compliance issues or the bank flagging the transfer if the status isn't aligned, but I'd also like to avoid a long paper trail if it’s generally a non-issue for smaller amounts.

Would appreciate any insights or personal experiences! Thanks in advance.
