"Not a fucking word, Bell"

A few weeks back, I posted my replica of Woods' Infiltration kit that I built for Desucon 2026, for cosplay purposes. While opinions varied here; the reception was mostly quite warm, and the main issues brought up were the lack of facial hair and my hair color. (That, and not yet having the worn face of a 50-year-old man, thank god.)

Nevertheless, I did mention having also built his alternate Stealth kit, best known for having been used in what is in my opinion arguably the best mission in the game - Redlight, Greenlight, and here it is.

The setup is similar in many ways to his main kit; but there are key differences. The heavy LBV-E vest is gone and replaced with an AWS Strike chest rig - which while anachronistic and belonging to the 90s, was heavily used by Delta in that era. Similarly, the sawn-off M79 grenade launcher on his hip is gone as well. And of course, the Colt Model 727 carbine has been switched for the suppressed MP5SD submachinegun.

However, it must be said that this was an alternate kit I did not focus nearly as much on. Thus a few creative liberties were taken while putting it together, but at the end of the day, I am still quite happy with the outcome. For example, I decided to litter the chest rig with Cyalume chemlights and Flash-Crash stun grenades which do fit the period, but do not appear on the original model, just to make it look a bit less plain.

Kitlist follows.

"Not a fucking word, Bell"

A few weeks back, I posted my copy of Woods' kit from Black Ops Cold War. If you saw that post, you may recall I mentioned having also built his alternative setup from the game, most notably used in the mission Redlight Greenlight.

Well, this is that kit. It is quite similar to the heavy LBV-E setup from before, but has some key differences nevertheless, particularly the different vest. That and the weapons - MP5SD submachinegun takes the forefront here instead of the Colt Model 723 carbine, while the sawn-off M79 is gone.

The kit is entirely functional - just add water and you're good to go, though admittedly the STABO harness is still quite a heavy beast of burden. Of course, that makes perfect sense: after all; you're supposed to be yanked off the ground by a helicopter or even a plane and pulled along with it from this harness, which even features in a certain mission in the game. While the STABO is rad, personally I would however say that the real star of the show is the Strike chest rig. The Strike may be an ancient design, but it does show clearly how it is the direct forefather of many modern setups, such as the London Bridge Trading LBT-1961.

Funnily enough, the kit was mostly a side project for me, with me primarily focusing on the main, "infiltration" kit of Woods, not the alternate "stealth" kit which you see here. At the same time, turns out I vastly prefer this setup, however, and while I was planning to keep the other setup and dismantle this, turns out I'll be doing it the exact opposite way. What can I say? Strike's pretty awesome.

Lastly in this section, as it'll likely raise questions once again - the green tape on the weapons is simply for cosplay purposes to mark the weapons as checked, cleared, and safe. No fear; they do not appear normally on my setup.

Kitlist follows.

Achievement unlocked: full gun rack

Clearly, this is a sign that either I need a second rack, or a bigger rack.

After doing airsoft for no less than 18 years, I have finally succeeded in filling out my gun rack. As surprising as it must sound, I have never been the kind to hoard guns, guns, and a bit more guns - gear has always been my thing instead. In fact, vast majority of my airsoft career I've only had two long arms at any given time.

But we've finally reached this point, after doing some builds and fresh kits in the past two-three years.

In case you guys are curious of what exactly you see (of course you are), here's a list; with some rough detail and notes for what they're for.

-----

Guarder Colt Model 727:

  • Built originally for my Twilight 2000 kit, essentially alt-history Cold War Gone Hot scenario starting from the year 1997. Took far too long to build due to tremendous difficulty in sourcing parts, but in the end the end result is real good. Based heavily on 90s Ranger carbines, with some minor divergence.
    • Aimpoint 5000 red dot sight
    • Surefire 660 weaponlight, with a Surefire F12 IR filter
    • Colt N1 stock, with a Diemaco C8 recoil pad
    • Colt 6-hole Commando handguards
    • AN/PEQ-2 laser mount bracket
    • * Diemaco C8 rear sling mount
    • Springfield Gray cerakote, to match 90s Colt Grey

VFC AKS-74UNB "Vaiita":

  • The AKSU was built for my Stalker setup over some time. The build is based on the late 80s experimental prototype modernized Tula AKS-74U, and then having been accessorized with 90s Russian stuff. Sourcing the AK itself proved to be quite difficult, due to the AK having been discontinued roughly a decade and a half ago, and in the end I had to ship it over from the US in boneyard condition before having it restored.
    • Axion Kobra EKP-1S-03 red dot sight
    • Tula AKS-74U night iron sights
    • * PBS-4 suppressor
    • Arsenal plum AK handguards and a custom plum pistol grip
    • Izhmash SVD cheek rest
    • Izhmash GP-25 recoil pad
    • Feeds from airsoft converted plum Izhmash and Molot magazines

TM/CA G3KA4:

  • The old warhorse. Essentially a Tokyo Marui G3SG1 converted with a Classic Army metal kit, like we used to do in the days of yore. I've had this rifle since 2009 and it shows. At this point it is worn enough that I do no longer use the rifle; being worried about it's longevity, but I am still quite fond of it. It has seen a tremendous amount of use, and it is basically what I personally identify airsoft with.

SRC MP5SD3:

  • The MP5SD was born heavily out of my frustration with the burst lower of the MP5A5 being very... finicky, but still wanting a functional MP5. Basically, it is built as a late 90s theoretical MP5SD build: I have never seen any military unit use their MP5s in this exact configuration, but all the parts existed and the setup is plausible. A personal favourite of mine, even if it is still a bit incomplete.
    • Bushnell Holosight
    • Surefire 660 weaponlight, with a Surefire F12 IR filter, mounted with a Surefire M23 MP5SD mount

SRC MP5A5:

  • A few years ago I discovered that SRC makes a non-functional burst lower, and that's where the trouble started. I had the "genius" idea of converting the gun for burst, which turned out to be tremendously difficult, and it took me about 2-3 years of (intermittent) work to finally got it to work properly. Probably. Now that I got it to function, I realized something: I've had this gun since 2012 and I still don't know what I am doing with it. I can't seem to figure out what kind of a build I want to do for it, and am a bit lost on that regard.
    • * Surefire 328 flashlight handguard with L72 laser head

Asterisks in part lists indicate reproduction or clone parts.

-----

All in all, the guns have been built meticulously and with care - no half measures allowed. While none of them are direct clones of any specific builds, I've pulled inspiration from here and there before going to town. If you have any thoughts or comments, do air them out! I am all ears.

Arts and crafts

Just finished up my ACH project long in the works, and I figured you guys might appreciate.

  • Gentex ACH
  • Ops-Core X-Nape
  • 4D Tactical pads
  • Norotos three-hole shroud
  • Norotos TATM mount arm
  • Ops-Core ARC rails
  • Surefire HL1 helmet light
  • FRS MS2000 strobe
  • Contour+2 helmet camera

The paintjob is a custom facsimile of Splintertarn, using Krylon's war paints. Actual application was a bit interesting: the base layer and the shapes were done by spraying. However, secondary green color was painted over by hand with a brush with a hand-mixed medium green color; while touching up edges. Full paintjob was then gently brushed with fine steel wool to reduce gloss caused by hand-painting. I have to say I am quite satisfied with the end result, but of course your mileage may vary.
