NEW JOKE UNLOCKED: "What Ernest Borgnine whispered to me at--"

Omg just when I thought this show has no more secrets for me! Watching "Funcooker" and Tracy drops this line about paying off the FCC fines to say whatever he wants to on air.

And tadaaa: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3I_PeLNzxNQ&ra=m

Now I'm off to try to figure out what BFF stands for...

Observations from someone who only just learned to drive in their 40s...

I am both relieved and disheartened by how fucking easy it is to keep even a very large car out of the bike lane. Like, criminally easy. And checking for cyclists? Honestly, feels like it's more effort to ignore cyclists.

I've been cycling almost as long as I've been walking. For a long time, I put off learning to drive because I thought it'd be too hard trying to drive and constantly looking out for cyclists. I saw all these drivers around us and just assumed that keeping out of the bike lane, checking for cyclists, giving cyclists space, while not impossible, must at least be challenging. It's not. Like, not at all.

One thing I noticed driving yesterday is that so many cars continue to drive in the middle of one-way streets, even when there's a bike lane. Part of this is being deliberately obtuse, but part of it is that that's how people are still taught to drive largely. They don't understand that the bike lane needs to be clear even when they don't see any cyclists in it. Driving schools, instructors, testers all need to adapt to bike culture, too. I think it'd go a huge way in normalizing bike lanes as part of the landscape.

How should I increase the size in the middle of my project?

I'm making a cardigan and it's starting to look like it'll be too snug over the bust. I think I over-estimated the possible horizontal stretch I'll get in blocking.

Currently using a 4mm hook on dk pima cotton from We Are Knitters. (Last photo is inspiration.)

Adding stitches feels like it'll be too obvious with this motif, so I'm thinking maybe switch to a 5mm as I get to the bust area? Is this a terrible idea?

(I think I may have answered my own question already but I still want to know what you all think. Kicking myself for not simply starting in 5mm and half tempted to just start over 😭)

Thread on threads

Newish to sashiko and about to stitch tf out of pair of very worn jeans. I bought some Gutermann Mara 30, which is like top-stitch thickness in polyester. I usually like this thread for sewing and I figure it'll be less likely to fray and split as I sew. But part of me is wondering if cotton wears better over time? Like melds better into denim and soften and stretches in a way that polyester doesn't?

Anyone have strong opinions on this? If you do, I want to hear them.

Also, this is kind of nerdy embroidery/fiber question, so don't bother if you're just like, "use what makes you happy." I'm happy nerding out, tsm.

Just got a 2 yo bill for an emergency dept visit

I'm not sure where to start with this one. There was a huge issue with my insurance in 2024 and the claims were processed and reprocessed so many times I can't even follow. It was a full time job following up with them for most of 2024, and now all that info I used to have is gone from my brain.

I *think* I didn't get the bill sooner because it was initially processed after my deductible and OOP had been met. I can't find an EOB and I'm not with this insurance anymore so I don't have a log-in.

Some questions you guys might be able to help with:

  1. This is in-network, so it's not technically a surprise bill, is that right?

  2. Are they still entitled to collect on this even though it's the first bill in over 2 years? This is in NY. Amazing a hospital billing dept can just sit on this for so freaking long.

  3. Is there a way to request a formal accounting of all claims from the insurance? This is what I needed to get them you repossess claims in the past but I no longer have access since I can't log into the portal.

  4. Do I need to tell the hospital I'm working on it? I'm guessing the answer is yes but I'm currently laid up with a case laryngitis so I'd be relieved to hear the opposite.
