Nuancing Taylor Swift Appreciation Post

Nuancing Taylor Swift Appreciation Post

I wanted to thank the mods and everyone who's engaged with me in this space since I came in a rip-roaring mess. While the other Taylor subreddit is cool, I find more passion here. Does that mean that I come across some real hardcore Swifties? Yes, but it's nice to have a community to tell me "Um, you're wrong and you have internalized misogyny."

I'm a 41 year old Black woman and while I would call myself a fairweather Swiftie, I can never say that her music hasn't been there for some important times in my life. I lost my husband in 2014 and I don't know why, but listening to "Shake it Off," "Blank Space" and "Style" made me feel less alone. That whole album got me through 2014/2015. Folklore happened when the pandemic happened and I had begun to creatively reach a peak. I hate Matty Healy, but I love TTPD (especially the anthology). Showgirl is not my favorite and I have my reasons for that.

As for her political views, etc, I don't think it matters anymore because this administration will perform violation like it's normal. Using Taylor's music despite her preventing certain people is a violation. Same is true for all of the female artists that have had their art violated. I also had to remember that talk is cheap.

A certain husband of one of the greatest vocalists in the world would rather attack a football player who kneeled for police brutality (This is about Jay-Z and how he keeps coming at Colin Kaepernick).

I think that if Taylor says anything (although she's playing 4D chess), it will hit hard and it will make men wither.

The Travis photo is just because he looks freaking hot and Taylor, I so get it.

Maturity is Accepting Taylor's Many Facets.

If this is not the right place for this, please advise. That said, I have feelings.

I see a lot of posts about Taylor's haters and how parasocial they are. I also see how parasocial her fans are. Basically, there is a lot of parasocial relationships happening there.

I tend to call myself a former Swiftie but really, it's more complicated than that. I love her music. Talking about it. Talking about her sometimes.

It's complicated because I don't hate Taylor. I still like her so much and yet, I am harsh on her like I have a parasocial relationship with her. Discussing her here has actually brought me back to her music.

I think back to how Britney was treated in the early aughts and frankly, I don't think that anyone has ever been treated that horribly by the press and by the public. Because of that, I am so happy that Taylor has been protected in a way that Britney wasn't.

That said, Taylor is polarizing. I think it's because a lot of people look at her and assume that she's not talented. Or they concentrate on her relationships. Or now, it's the billionaire thing. Her intent was never to be polarizing (I think).

She's trying, though. She donates. She knows when it's safer to say nothing. She's doing the best she can with the constant onslaught she has to deal with. That man's administration is picking at her and other white/white passing women because they think these women should be subservient to them. Do I wish she did more? Yes, but look at the world.

We're in a world where nothing will be the same again and the truth is becoming unveiled almost every day. And my truth is that I am a fairweather Swiftie who does not like Showgirl.

Edited to remove that paragraph that didn't make sense.

Second Edit: TL;DR: I like Taylor Swift. The hate discourse around her is hella loud and unnecessary, and she's doing her best.

Random Question About Joe

I know that Taylor called Joe a killer in "...Ready for It?" and she also said "Two Graves/One Gun" in "So long london," not to mention "You're Losing Me," but I'm wondering if she ever wrote in any of her songs before her breakup with him that if he kills her (metaphorically) then he would be doing it to himself as well.

Did that happen or am I imagining it?

Does anyone else notice the undertone of Showgirl?

I am listening to "Wood" (I love it) and she mentions for the second time on the album (afaik) that she and Travis make their own luck. She said that "Opalite" was a man-made gem and it was significant because she and Travis made up their own luck. Am I alone? Send your theories.

Do We Need to Know Everything About Taylor and Travis' Wedding?

Taylor and Travis had what was called the Royal Wedding and The Wedding of the Century, but there has been so much discussion that I'm starting to feel that it's taking away from the fact that Taylor got married.

I am extremely critical of Taylor, but I don't want to hear any more about the raffles and the guest list. No one is talking about if Taylor's father walked her down the aisle or if Travis teared up seeing her. Better yet, I don't need to hear anything other than they are married and I hope they had a lovely honeymoon. Am I alone in this feeling?

Edit: I don't know if we need to see the wedding photos, either. Beyonce and Jay-Z didn't show their wedding footage or photos for years.

Second edit: I was excited to hear about the wedding details the first two weeks or so after the wedding but it then became really exhausting for me. I understand that Taylor and Travis having the MSG surveillance reduced spoke of how the rich was entitled to privacy but I did not need to hear about the Swifties buying trash from the wedding and now, the permits have been released

How Taylor Swift Appears to her non-BIPOC fans and gets their defense

When I say non-BIPOC, I am specifically addressing the white fans. I think that this video is an extremely honest and nuanced take as to why Taylor Swift always has to be defended, especially by her white fans.

Colony House Basement Question

I may be confused because during Jade's trip, he and Boyd ended up in the basement of Colony House. It was there that they found a door and the door led to the tunnels. Given how that ended, the door may not be real...or could it be?

Isn't that basement the same one that Boyd has Acosta doing her investigation? What if she finds that door? If I'm wrong, please correct me and don't be a dick about it.

Edit: Well, damn. I did not see that coming from the trailer.
