Could Use Some Confirmation That I’m Doing This Right

In the last year or so I have gotten into potting cactus. I have an array of plants that I THINK are doing well, but could use some confirmation that I’m doing it right.

First off, I live in San Diego, CA where it is currently 103 degrees. Awful, but this is what we pay for I guess. I am born and raised in SD and it’s never been this hot at the beginning of October. It’s crazy.

Here are the plants that I think I have:

• Newly potted Prickly Pear (hence being in the shade)
• Golden Torch
• Another prickly pear and Peruvian Apple Cactus in the same pot
• Golden Barrel Cactus
• Another golden torch
• San Pedro
• Some prickly pear pad cuttings
• Madagascar Palm
• Fairy Castle

I have been relying upon my own internet research and AI (reluctantly) to get answers etc. But I want to move away from that. So the questions I have:

  1. Do I in fact have all those plants?
  2. They all sit in anywhere between 6 to 10 hours of sun a day. Is that a good amount for each one?
  3. During the summer, I water them lightly, while watering other plants we have, every few days. Is that a good amount? What should it look like come fall/winter?
  4. I fertilized them all last at the beginning of summer. Should I do it again before they go dormant? How about the freshly potted prickly pear, which I haven’t fertilized at all?
  5. Any other tips/tricks/advice/etc?

I appreciate any and all help!

1 oz • 30 ml. Cognac
¼ oz • 7.5 ml. overproof Jamaican I
¼ oz • 7.5 ml. rich simple syrup
4 dashes Peychaud's bitters
2 dashes Angostura bitters

Spray chilled nick and Nora with Absinthe

Oshkosh 2026 Questions

So I had literally never heard of this air show till tonight when I was scrolling YouTube and came across AirShowStuff who had a great video from last year.

This is amazing. Obviously I can’t go this year but will definitely be making the trip in the future.

For this year though, what’s the best livestream to watch? I’ll be following on ADSB but I’d love to be able to see things landing as well. I know it’s gonna be a weird year cause of the fires in CA but I’d still love to watch all week

It looks like the majority of the planes landing are shown on the Green Dot stream? I also see that there is a features stream. Does that just rotate between all of them?

Do they also livestream the air show performances?

Is there a list/schedule of all the planes arriving?

Appreciate any guidance that can be given.

Inherited Guns Questions

Hey everyone.

My father-in-law suddenly passed away recently, and my wife and we have inherited his firearms. There are 15 of them all in different states and different types. Before I get to my questions, here is the list of what we have, as far as we can tell:

  • Plainfield M1 Carbine
  • Intratec Tec-9
  • Winchester Model 94
  • Andersen Manufacturing AM-15
  • Winchester Model 61
  • American Industries Calico M100
  • Ruger Model 10
  • Ruger 308
  • Beretta Outlander
  • Walther 9mm
  • Phoenix Arms Raven
  • Ruger Redhawk
  • Springfield 1911
  • Gamo Viper Express
  • Mossberg 500 (thought this was a Remington 870 as first)

I plan on shooting all of them, not only to honor him, but also to figure out what we want to keep.

I grew up shooting guns out in the desert with my grandparents and have gone to arrange a couple of times just for fun, but I’ve never been a big gun person. I am thinking that I want to keep a few of them for a couple different purposes though. The first. purpose is for home defense. I know the standard here is either a pistol or some type of shotgun and I was leaning toward the 1911 but I went to range today and shot a similar one and I think it’s just too much gun. Especially if I’m going to have my wife be trained in shooting it as well.. In my mind, the idea would be too easily handle something quickly. So is there another one of these guns that makes more sense than the 1911?

I also shot a Beretta outlander today and as fun as it was, I don’t think I need that big of a gun for home defense. Hopefully I won’t need anything ever, but we just bought our house and it feels like the right thing to have at this point.

I’m also really interested in the rifles for target shooting. The two that I’m leaning towards are the Winchester 94 and the Ruger 308. The Ruger already has a Nikon scope on it, so that’s nice but I know it’s used more as a hunting rifle than anything. The Winchester 94 is more of a cowboy gun and I think because it’s top loading, putting a scope on it might be tough, but it’s really nice and I’d like to use it for target practice with the scope. Is that possible? I’ve read stuff about scout scopes, but I don’t know the difference.

Having a plinker too is something I’d maybe like. Especially to teach my son on. So maybe the Model 16 or the Model 10?

The inner history nerd in me, wants to keep the carbine, but it doesn’t seem like it’s in good shape and I don’t think it would fulfill my needs.

I am planning on selling the ones I don’t keep, so if there is a recommendation for the home defense pistol that would be better suited for me other than what’s listed here, I’d love to hear your thoughts.

I know I have asked a lot of questions here, so I appreciate the patience.

DISCLAIMER: Whatever we keep, I am fully planning on taking multiple courses on how to properly maintain and shoot the gun, as well as safety classes.

Looking for a Good Under Tank

I love wearing short sleeve button ups on date nights with the wifey, but I feel like it’s starting to become stale.

I think adding in a tank top under would look good and add some variety but I can’t seem to find a good fitting tank that isn’t a beater. I have a shape wear tank that I wear sometimes but that isn’t a good one to wear with a shirt unbuttoned, for many reasons.

I am getting a ton of ads on socials because of the algo, but all seem to be the same.

Anyone got any good recs?

Tide Pool Question

Hey everyone. My family and I are completing our west coast National Park list with a trip to Olympic in about a week and a half. We will be driving from Seabrook to Forks on Friday 6/12. We love doing tide pools and have seen the Beach 4 is the place to be on the west coast. I am looking at the NOAA tide predictions and it's saying that the low tide for that day is at 6AM. As much as I love to say that we could go that early, that ain't the reality. My question is, will we be able to experience the pools at all later in the day? Say around 9am or so?

Also, if there is somewhere that you might think is better, let me know.

Thanks in advance!

1989 DRC Question

Hey everyone. Just joined the community cause my wife and I just inherited her father in laws 1989 Ram Charger 150 4x4.

Based on our limited research and knowledge, the gas tank was not stock and had a sort of skid plate/cage around it for offeroading.

We ordered a new tank from OReilly and it turns out it’s not the right size and it’s metal, which the one we replaced was plastic. The measurements for the tank that is currently on it (again, probably not stock) is 31.5x27x8.5.

Can anyone tell us where we should be looking for as far as a real replacement? And if so, are there sites you order parts from for the RC?

Appreciate the help!

Got bottles of Bitterman's 'Elemakule' Tiki bitters and Giffard Banane du Brésil fo my birthday. Started looking around for recipes with both and across a post that referenced this:

https://www.cocktailcontessa.com/bananas-foster-manhattan/

I didn’t have salted caramel syrup or the walnut bitters, so I improvised with maple syrup and the cacao bitters and it did not disappoint. It’s desert in a cup and in the best way possible.

Please share your other recommendations that feature those ingredients together or separate.

Enjoy!

2 oz Elijah Craig Small Batch
1 oz Giffard Banane du Brésil
.5 oz maple syrup
12 drops Bitterman's 'Elemakule' Tiki bitters
3 drops Strong Water Cacao bitters

Hot damn.
