Weekend plans

Anything of note planned for the weekend? Or any events of interest that people may/may not have heard about?

My plans at the moment are some housework/clear out the garage, and make some brownies for a family get together (Grandma's anniversary)

Weather outlook: Most of NI will experience rain over the weekend (sometimes heavy), particularly in the West and North (-west) with milder temps compared to last week.

Columbus experience

A month or so ago I posted looking for suggestions, and am grateful for those.

Just wanted to make a follow up post to say thanks and that you have a lovely city. I hope to be back some day and give it more time.

I tried to do more of the free things, just with limited time didn't want to spend money on rushed experiences.

•But I started off in the Park of Roses, before heading to Lavash for a quick bite (lunch), which was delicious!

•Parked up near Goodale Park after that and took a walk round, Short North -> City Hall -> Statehouse -> Topiary Park -> St Patrick's (E Naghten Street) -> Goodale Park.

•Had dinner from Seitan's Realm. Superb!

•After dinner headed over to Scioto Audubon Metropark for a sunset walk. Really wish you could get higher up the water tower, but a nice spot all the same.

•Then went to the Book Loft after that and wow! It was a-maze-ing! After that went to Main Street Bridge for a night time skyline picture.

•On Sunday had to check out The Slingshot and Deer Sculpture before going to the Art Museum (thanks for the tip that it's free on Sundays)

•After that got some bubble tea and a snack from East Market and checked the exteriors of Ohio History Center and Ohio Stadium before visiting Cornhenge (Dublin) and heading for Cleveland.

I definitely will try to be back, ideally in October for the TØP concert, but ticket prices are currently prohibitive.

Also for all the flack Americans get from us Europeans for not knowing "obvious" things. I never put 2+2 together about the naming of Columbus.

Do they really think someone would pay this?

Wish there could be some real intervention from Ticketmaster to prohibit ridiculous scalping

Subreddit Update. What's been happening behind the scenes?

The past week saw r/northernireland reach the world stage due to the horrific attack last Monday night, and follow up race riots in response to it.

We also got extra attention from some accounts elsewhere on social media that claimed we were censoring discussion, and calling for some users to brigade the subreddit.

As a result of this the subreddit received 5.2million visitors (up 3.5m from normal) with the 3 highest days being:

June 9th: 1.5m total (145.6k unique)

June 10th: 1.4m total (123.8k unique)

June 11th: 737.5k total (93.7k unique)

For comparison June 8th had less that 305.3k total visitors (66.3k unique).

The subreddit also saw nearly 29.6k comments (up 14.4k) and 506 posts (up 181).

The mod team has worked pretty extensively the past week to try and contain as much of the discourse as possible, using tools available to us to avoid Reddit Admins jumping in and missing potential nuance/colloquialisms.

Some of these tools have relaxed, but can be reactivated depending on what we see on the subreddit, but just in case we miss things you are welcome to bring them to our attention using the report function.

We've also issued close to 200 warning or permanent bans for intolerant/dog whistle comments, with some of the temporary bans expiring at the moment.

As mentioned in Rule 1: Don't be a Dick wiki, if you want to be a racist dick feel free to go elsewhere.

It's been a bit of a busy week, but we're grateful for the support from a lot of our regular Craic Dealers, so thank you for bearing with us.

>!Again, going a bit rogue with this post so if another mod wants to remove feel free to.!<

Edit to add:

If you have any feedback/suggestions you want to share, you are more than welcome to share it on this thread or by sending the modteam a modmail.

Duster Journey vs Extreme (UK)

Was away in the states for a few weeks and driving a Rav4. Loved the size of it, and now my mk2 Sandero Stepway (which I still love) feels small.

Eyeing up the current Duster and a local dealership has the 1.6 (140) Extreme full hybrid, while another dealership has the Journey trim with the same engine.

Both are the older engine, but definitely full hybrid because of the automatic transmission, right?

Other than heated seats/steering wheel, is there much clear difference in the two of them, and would you choose Extreme over Journey?

Important Updates [Megathread]

With the potential for further unrest this evening (and possibly into the coming days) this Megathread has been set up to post any important updates.

E.g. Service suspensions, road closures, or other information (e.g. shop closures/event cancellations, contact details for support services, etc.)

#This is not the place for commentary or discussion on any ongoing events, to minimise important updates being missed or buried in opinions/commentary/memes etc.

For any discussions please used the Commentary Megathread

Protest/Unrest [Megathread]

Due to the planned protests this evening and potential for unrest (hopefully not), to keep the subreddit from ending up with multiple posts related to the same issue, there was a decision to open up a megathread.

From now and for the foreseeable, this thread is to be used for any protest/unrest related discussion, news etc.

This frees up the subreddit for business as usual posts not to be drowned out.

This place was not like Belfast at all. False advertising with a name like that.

Driving from Cleveland through Pennslyvania yesterday and came across this little place.

Didn't see a single person sniffing glue or kicking a bus stop.

Handed in my Master's write up earlier this week, so I'm ready for this weekend!

Kicked it off by treating myself to some Star Wars Lego earlier (May 4th offers), and now eyeing up getting one of the *Galactic Mandalorian* meals in Burger King. Not sure about this evening, but maybe at some point over the weekend.

Sunday looks like meeting up with some friends after they finish the marathon, so tomorrow might involve making a banner/sign.

And planning to watch at least one Star Wars movie, especially on Monday evening.

What about you, any plans?
