Going to be in Paris for a few days on a trip which gives a few days to explore.

I am learning some French, as I do speak 3 languages, but focusing mostly on the main things like restroom/food/directions.

From some people I work with I have heard that there is a kind of disdain towards Americans (yes I know)

Is there actually any issue with speaking English vs speaking another language first (as I don't really speak French)?
