PD on AI use was insane.

I’m getting my inherent bias ( I will argue I am right though) out of the way here, I hate Generative AI use. Had a virtual PD for summer school in AI today, and it was absolutely ridiculous the messaging they are sharing with us.

  1. 80/20, 20% of the work has to be the student’s, while 80% can be AI.
  2. It’s better than doing feedback manually. Sure, I get the idea of feedback being boring, but that’s your job. It’s not that hard or taxing and if it is causing burnout maybe examine why.
  3. If teachers don’t use it they will be replaced by teachers who do. I don’t see the evidence there, and it seems to be more an initiative to police teachers to all be the same instead of differentiating.
  4. We hear the ethical concerns, but don’t care. Aren’t we supposed to be preparing the next generation? Data centres causing droughts and polluting faster than ever. The dangers of AI generation of images? Critical thinking?

I understand people like to make their lives easier. But why do we want to use a tool billionaires invest money in that does no net positive. It’s making us lazy more than anything. Rant over but please explain to me how we can fight against this, it was disheartening seeing so many teachers loudly applaud using it.

Silverfish trouble

Summer was going great, all of the sudden I have silverfish on my windowsills. Lots of them too. I’m trying to dry out the areas with dehumidifiers but is there any suggestions to get rid of them easily? We are having guests over next weekend. Could I use an exterminator?

Thanks!

Alpha/Omega Flight needs representation. I present the hypothetical “Alpha Guardians”

Lots of great deep cuts here. Guardian as team leader, Shaman or Talisman gives us a great magic user, Snowbird is a unique character all around, and either Sasquatch for a big body grappler or Aurora for the obligatory Québécois representation.

Small vent: I miss my beard

Very straightforward, I have a face that requires a beard. While I don’t hate a stache, I just love how I look with a beard. Yeah when I’m out I’m in a mask, but not always outdoors or with my partner (who also likes the beard) and some CC friends. I also hate shaving so frequently. It’s such a small thing but I wish I can have a nice beard again

Best Spa/Massage in Osaka

Partner and I went way too hard way too fast our first two weeks in Japan. We are looking to unwind with a massage but everywhere around Osaka (we are staying in Namba) seems to appeal to a certain.. clientele. We are looking for something real, relaxing, and therapeutic as we are aching. She needs her feet done so reflexology maybe, and I could use shoulders. Thank you in advanced!

Best place to buy n95 masks in Japan

Going to Japan for 3 weeks and was going to bring a ton of masks. However, wondering what the best place to get n95 masks would be, and of there's a good brand to get.

Sip Valve or lift the mask?

Long flight coming up, what would be the best way to drink? Would you recommend a Sip Valve or just quickly lifting the mask?

Thank you!

I have a long flight (6h to Vancouver may 30th and 10h to Japan May 31st.)

For both flights I am assuming my time in my mask (obviously for Japan) would be longer than 8h, which is the normal recommendation for how long an n95 works. Would I be best switching it out after the 8h mark, or should I just leave it on? I will have to break the seal for boarding as they make you lower for checking passports, but I want to confirm. Thanks!
