Every Needs VersaTune

After a couple of weeks of ownership I went ahead and updated my old tuning laptop (used previously in my 180sx drift build) with a Samsung SSD and windows 10 so I could use versatune. Got around to flashing the 7200 rpm 93 octane tune this afternoon after work and was genuinely shocked by the difference. The ND1 is definitely known for being dead up top but that characteristic is definitely gone now and I’m shocked by the difference in throttle response and mid range punch. I’d argue this might be the best $400 I’ve ever spent on a car.

Second best $400 might be on replacing the piano black trim surrounding the windshield. Old stuff snapped off in pieces but the new stuff went in without a hitch. OEM piano black stuff seemed harder to come by than I expected due to US part superseding but I found a supplier in Japan and got it sent over for $50 additional shipping.

Spent a little more swapping up some random stuff the P.O. didn’t care about like the infotainment button and and rear view mirror…tore off the old crappy “leather” from my handbrake. Now I just need to fix my buzzing visors.

Been a fun first two weeks of ND ownership.

New to Me ND1

Picked this 2018 up from a friend for a steal to use as a daily. Had a 06 corolla as a daily previously and putted around in that for years to keep miles of my F87 Comp. This is definitely an upgrade and keeps putting a smile in my face. This is my first ND but it’s my 7th Miata overall. Haven’t had one in about 5 years and my list is 01 SE, 91 SE, 04 Roadster Turbo (RHD imported), two 97s, and a 05 MSM.

Car is a 6MT Club with a Roadster sport axle back, GWR Feal 441s, Hawk DTC 30, Falken RT615K+, Hard Dog roll bar and full spherical bushing set in the rear. Simple and fun. Picked up a versatuner license and will enjoy the extra 10-15hp + no lift shift and raised rev limit that comes with that. Car has 128k miles with a fresh clutch and I look forward to beating the piss out of it while getting 25+ mpg for many years to come
