I am gunna be a student this Winter. First time in Austria. I dont care about cafe aesthetics or vibes. I just want the meal to fill me up without breaking my bankk. Suggestions?

The new vfs route requires u to attach ur birth certificate. My surname was changed as a child. so all my docs have a different surname from my birth certificate. i know i can get it gazetted but thats gunna take time.
any alternative route i can take?
Im moving to Linz as a student at JKU and have found a place in Eisenwerkstraße.
ill be paying 430 Euros every month for a single room. im sharing the flat with one other person so that is convenient.
and the deposit is 1200 Euros. it is a one year contract.
im not sure if i should take it despite the pros because it is 45 mins away from jku. and the metro/subway/tram (please tell me what its called in austria) is 10 mins walk away.
due to the nature of my degree, i have to go to college five days a week. so a 40 min commute is worrying me.
people who live in linz please give me some advice. should i go for it.
i have never been to austria so i also don’t know what a reasonable price range is.
Advice is welcome!
🇦🇹:

Hi, I am 22, starting my Masters in October. I am looking for single rooms in shared apartments/dorms.
My budget is 400-450. But I can increase it to 500 if the place is good enough.
Women only-preferably a student!
I was 11 years old and my family lived in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. We returned to India a few years later.
In Riyadh, my parents decided that instead of the random surname I had, I should have my father’s surname. So my surname was changed.
My parents seem to not remember if we have any docs announcing my surname change. I don’t think we do.
All my docs since then including my Boards Certificates and my Bachelor’s Degree have my new surname. It has been about twelve years since my surname change. I am 22 now.
I have applied for my Masters in Austria and for the Resident Permit I need to show my Birth Certificate (which has my old surname).
I don’t know what to do? I have never needed my birth certificate for anything prior to this so I never bothered with it.
I am aware that I can go to the notary and stuff to get my surname change published in the newspaper, but how do I know if it will be accepted in the E.U? Google says I need to get it gazetted. Where do I go for these things?
I need to submit all docs by the end of May and I am so tired of the whole process already. Please please help me out.
I’m booking through them but im skeptical about how the amenities and stuff are gunna be there so i needed sum reviews.
I am a masters student for the winter intake.

I have found an accommodation there, but it is approx 30 mins away from the university campus. Should i take it? Considering it’s already hard to get rooms on a budget in Linz…
Idk if there is a U bahn nearby. Please any native from Linz give me some advice
I am a Winter 2026 student for Msc and I am not from Europe. A lot of listings online look AI generated and shady.
How do i know which ones are real?
What is a realistic price range i should look for in Linz/Wels for a private room/student dorm?
Where do i look for?
I am unable to find accommodation and i have to apply for RP so i can leave in mid sept as a winter 2026 student.
