How do you set boundaries without sounding like ultimatums?

My dad relapsed several times over the past year and is not doing anything to get help. My wife and I are trying to conceive, and I want him to understand that continuing this path will prevent him from seeing his grandchild. I want my dad in my child’s life, so I feel guilty for even feeling this way.. but no one protected me, so I feel deeply protective of my future child.

I’m not sure how and when to bring this up without sounding like an ultimatum, yet my boundary is firm. My mom suggests waiting to tell him because it might further send him into a spiral, but I believe he needs all the time he can get to figure it out and get support.

I plan to attend Al anon meetings myself to untangle this codependency / guilt on a deeper level. But with this I’m looking for support on how to approach this conversation.

Ohio - fired shortly after disclosing recovery from alcoholism

My dad (60s) recently left a stable job to take a new position. He’s been in training, testing regularly as part of the role, and passing every test. There’s been no verbal or written warnings about performance at any point.

Last week he confided in a coworker that he’s a recovering alcoholic and was in rehab a few years ago. Within days, word spread through the plant and people started calling him a “drunk”, amongst other names.

He was given another test today and failed this one by 2 questions. Right after, they pulled out a performance card, and gave him 1s across the board, including in attendance, despite him never missing a single day or being late (when asked, the only cited issue was coming back 10 minutes late from lunch once).

They told him he “wasn’t progressing fast enough”, despite this being his first failure. He had been employed for about 45 days. When he asked if there was anything he could do to fix it or improve, they said no and let him go. He was blindsided.

He believes the real reasons were the alcoholism disclosure and possibly his age, not performance. He’s meeting with an employment attorney, but wanted to get some outside perspective first.

Does this sound like it could be a legitimate ADA/disability discrimination or retaliation case? Anything specific we should ask the attorney about, or evidence we should be gathering now (Ohio, at-will state)?

For more context: Others who have failed these “tests” were given opportunity to continue employment and improve. Same deal with the “attendance” ding for 10 minutes late from lunch. Others no show call out multiple times a month and have not been given disciplinary action.

EDIT: what is the purpose of asking for advice on this sub if everyone downvotes your comments providing more information / asking clarification? If we don’t have a case, that’s fine, but damn y’all are insane for that.

BOP orders delayed after being wrongly coded as separating

I was approved for a CONUS BOP months ago. My RNLTD is in 75 days and I still have not received orders. I was told not to reenlist until orders were ready, so I was waiting. Then I went on approved parental leave after my baby was born.

While I was on leave, AFPC apparently sent emails to my .mil asking for additional information. Since I was on leave, I didn’t see them until I got back. Somewhere along the way I ended up being coded as separating instead of reenlisting, which seems to have stopped everything.

I’ve since extended, and CSS just submitted a case to AFPC to correct everything. The case is currently under review.

My current unit still has me showing as outbound, but my gaining unit says they don’t see me as inbound, so I’m getting mixed signals. I have no idea if my BOP is still active or if this whole situation caused it to be canceled.

Has anyone had something similar happen?

Did AFPC keep your BOP assignment once the admin issue was fixed?

If it was canceled, were they able to reinstate it?
How long did it take for AFPC to resolve the case?

Seeking witnesses - car accident on I-90

Sorry mods if this isn’t allowed, but I was involved in a fender bender on I-90 west near the HOV split / Bellevue way exit on 5/17 around 6:40pm and I’m hoping someone here saw what happened.

A blue Tesla was driving a bit erratic, traveling around 20 mph in the 60 mph zone and then suddenly came to a complete stop. I braked hard but the car behind me couldn’t stop in time and rear-ended me, pushing me toward the Tesla. The Tesla then drove off without stopping.

I wasn’t able to grab the Tesla’s license plate and we’re filing a police report. If you were driving in that area and saw this, or have dashcam footage from around that time, please DM me or comment below. Even small details could really help.

EDIT: I’m not asking for opinions on whether or not I’m a bad driver, who’s at fault, etc. If you have any info, that would be appreciated! Thank you!
