Houseguest Cooper.

We are watching Cooper for the weekend. He’s a sweet boy and fits in easily very well-behaved. He was Raven‘s father so sometimes it makes me a little sad when he’s here, but he doesn’t remind me of her too much.

The problem with volunteering.

Repeat after me: I do not need another dog. I do not need another dog. I do not need another dog. Both of these dogs need homes and I am an experienced former vet tech. The Blenheim has recently had PDA surgery and the tricolor has an open fontanelle and umbilical hernia and at 16 weeks old. She’s only 3.4 pounds.

I do not need another dog. I do not need another dog.

My heart.

I wanted to share something that’s been on my heart and see if anyone else has experienced something similar.
I lost my beloved Raven on September 10, 2025, and for a long time I never dreamed about her.
But recently, something has changed.
I’ve started having incredibly vivid dreams where Raven comes into my room, crawls up onto my bed just like she used to, and for a few beautiful moments, I know she’s with me.
Then I wake up.
As I become fully awake, she slowly fades into a shadow…and then she’s gone.
Every single time.
These dreams are so real that they leave me crying when I wake up.
I don’t know what they mean. Maybe they’re simply the way my grief is changing. Maybe they’re my heart trying to heal. Maybe they’re something more. I honestly don’t know, and I’m not trying to convince myself of any one explanation.
At the same time, I’ve been struggling with a decision that has my heart completely tangled.
A puppy named Beatrice came into my life through the rescue where I volunteer. She was born with a PDA (a congenital heart defect), and I helped get her into surgery as quickly as possible. She’s doing wonderfully now, but the foster family I thought was going to adopt her isn’t able to.
Now I’m trying to decide whether she belongs with us.
I have three wonderful dogs already, so this isn’t a decision I’m taking lightly. I don’t know if my emotions are coming from grief, from love, or from something I can’t explain. I’m not sure if afourth dog is a good idea.
Before I go to sleep, I’ve found myself saying this:
“Raven, I love you. If there’s something you want me to understand, I’ll listen. And if there isn’t, that’s okay too. Help me have peace with whatever decision is right.”
I’m not asking anyone to tell me what my dreams mean. I’d just love to hear from others who have experienced something similar after losing a beloved animal, especially if the dreams didn’t begin until long after they were gone.
Thank you for reading. ❤️ I included pictures of both of them. Raven is the black and tan.

Barn Visit

Hang out at the barn for a little bit today. Spookie thought it was a good idea to bark at the horses so our visit was cut short.
