Nabbed one of the mid 90’s models to compare against my ‘84. I know there’s some variation on the G12T but these APPARENTLY didn’t vary much. If it sounds the same, this will open up a cheaper venue to get the Siamese Dream speaker.

The intro to Today was not the JCM800
Butch said in an interview that Today's intro was recorded with an old tube amp from the 50's or 60's. If the amp had been anything of note, I suspect Butch would have named the amp (Magnate, Supro, Fender etc). Anyone that plays guitar and grew up in the 80's and 90's in the US or Canada, surely saw those cheap Valco amps sitting around. They always had 3 or 4 inputs and were generally low wattage. They had a unique sound because of the type of speakers used. There was a slight overdriven sound hiding in the background of even the cleanest tones from them. This was recorded by dropping an SM58 in front of the amp with ZERO regard to mic position. If it was moved around, the sound could easily be made even closer. No problem whatsoever.
Here's Why I Collect Bananana Effects Pedals
This is my Bananana board.
Strat > "The Bomb" Fuzz > "Matryoshka" Synth > "Mandala" Glitch > "Aurora" Delay > JCM800
I posted my current collection yesterday. I finally got to plug in the new fuzz I picked up this weekend and it's easily a top 3 fuzz already. Love this thing. These things are so good for making noise on your own or with other people. Here's a sample of why I love these things.
[NPD] Found a Bananana Effects The Bomb today. Only one Pokémon left to go!
I’ve been slowly collecting these with a single rule; no buying online. In store only. I thought the only small box left to find was the Abracadabra but I had forgotten that they had a fuzz in the early days. Scored one for about $60 USD. Still need to find an Abracadabra but I’m one step closer to my all Bananana Effects pedalboard.
I love the Space Echo oscillation at the end of this. The pedal version does an ok job of doing the same.
I’m prepping all the proof so I will be going over it in my next video. Here’s a sample for the subreddit. This recording has no EQ. Only the Studer tape plugin. There is only a bus compressor. No mastering. This was JCM800 and an AKG C414 tracked 2 per side.
This is for all the Pumpkin’s fans that want to get something like the Siamese Dream sound but don’t want to or cannot afford to buy an JCM800 and expensive mics. The total budget for this rig was $250 USD plus the cost of an OpAmp Big Muff
