The random compliments I get is wild!

So I have a rare (for Canada) imported from America 2018 GLI in white silver with the unique OEM rims they never had in Canada. I imported it into Canada 4 years ago and get compliments on it from time to time from enthusiasts. But let me tell you something…. I have received more compliments on my new 2018 Alltrack execline in the past month than I have on my GLI in the past 2 years. The nods, the thumbs-up, and the smiles I get from other random wagon drivers is awesome!

Why did no one tell me the cult following of wagons in Canada!?? Every time I drive the thing the dopamine spikes!

Does the honeymoon phase end!??

Feeling confident to look at an Alltrack 2hrs away from things I learned from this Subreddit!

Been a lurker of this subreddit for nearly 2 years now, and I am now convinced that this is the greatest gasoline wagon in the past 20years. I am happy to announce that I am travelling 2 hours to look at a potential purchase today! I have learned the following when buying a used alltrack from THIS very subreddit!

- evidence of water damage from a known issue with the moonroof - look in the foot wells, and the spare tire compartment in the trunk for pooling or dampness, and look around the edges of the moonroof.

- if coming from a northern area (car is from Quebec) do a thorough inspection of the rear hatch edges for rust, or beginnings of rust literally anywhere

- open the hood and inspect the coolant reservoir, and water pump for any signs of corrosion

- touch the infotainment screen to see if the touch screen works everywhere. And bring a USB to check the connectivity of such.

- Turn on the AC to listen and feel if air is dry/cool

Things I've done in the meantime

- Checked to see if the recalls have been completed - they have

- checked Carfax - clean - however Carfax isn't accurate with Quebec vehicles since lots of types of things don't need to be reported. - I will be the 3rd owner

- checked Quebec safety history with the vehicles VIN

- confirmed with the dealer about any maintenance records - there are NONE (scary)

- had a great discussion and got more advice (literally confirmed all the same things I found on this subreddit) with my local VW service manager - he gave me his personal number to call him directly if I have any concerns.

Huge thanks for everyone's discussions on this subreddit! I hope this car is worth it!!!

Almost 800km for one tank of gas!!

Nearly 800km on one tank of fuel!! The furthest I’ve gone in one tank since my 2002 TDI. I love this car so much.

Car and specs:
- 2018 GLI
- 272hp with Unitronic st1+ ECU and TCU (94 octane)
- everything else is OEM.

The Stage 1+ is such a good upgrade (4 years now and counting)! I also take good care of this car, and baby it as often as I can, and only stretch the legs every now and then. Oil change every 10k km, just about to do my second DSG flush and filter, and coming up on a big 100k maintenance with the spark plug upgrades, all filter and fluid wash out, and a replacement water pump. Just such a good car!!

Seriously such an underrated car.

If VW drops a new wagon in NA for 2027 I’m buying one immediately.

I know it’s wishful thinking, but I don’t want to spend an arm and a leg for an Audi Allroad, or a Merc e450, or a Volvo v60/90. The 2019 Alltrack was perfect. I’m heart broken that the dealer sold one when I was on my way there to buy it… I got a 2018 GLI instead, but everytime I see a nice Alltrack, I just go green with envy. Don’t get me wrong, I love my GLI, and take good care of it, and it’s a great reliable car… but…. I just love VW wagons!!
