RANT client

today i had one of the most irritating experiences ever and i just want to hear if there is anything else i should have done or if i handled this client the wrong way. photo is attached of her hair after i got two sections MOSTLY dried.

so, i had a new client come in today and she booked an all over color. she had hair down to her butt and it was BLACK. she showed me a picture of what she was hoping for, which was a level 6 chocolate brown. i asked her if her hair is colored black or if it is natural, it was natural. i explained to her that with just color, i cannot get her as light as the picture. i showed her swatches of all the levels, and told her that without lightening it, we could possibly get it to a level four chocolate brown. we had a 20 minute discussion where i explained what it would look like. very extensive consultation. she did not want to do any lightening, and she agreed to do the color.

the whole time i’m doing the color application she is recording. felt super weird but like whatever pop off i guess.

i used redken 4nch, 6n and 5g. 20 volume applied at the root then same formula with 30 volume at the ends. processed for 15 minutes with a processing cap, then 20 minutes under the dryer.

the color turned out exactly how i explained it would. before we were even done at the bowl, she grabbed the ends of her hair and said “IT IS STILL BLACK!!”. i said “hey girl, it is still soaking wet. let me dry it so you can actually see the color and we can go from there”. the whole time i’m trying to dry her hair, she’s pulling away from me, turning her head to the mirror, pulling at her hair. before i even got one section completely dry she spun herself around to the mirror and started saying that it was still black. i then brought her into natural lighting, took a picture, showed her and she stormed back to my chair. i proceeded to try and blow dry the rest of her hair which took another hour because she simply WOULD NOT LET ME JUST DRY IT. after it’s dry, she’s still complaining saying it is “still black. i then go over AGAIN what was said during the consultation. i told her she might feel like it’s so dark because it is all one solid color without dimension. we then book an appointment for a week from now to do a balayage.

i print out her ticket for her, she looks at it and says, “are you not going to give me a discount??”
i said “huh?? no i am not going to offer a discount. you’re hair turned out exactly how we discussed in the consultation.”

she then got huffy, said she’d be back next week. before she went to pay, she asked me if i would delete the pictures i took of her. i said “i can, but i like to keep them for my records”. she then said, “no i would like you to delete them in front of me”. which i did, because i didn’t think anything of it. however once i started thinking about it, i got scared she would try to pull something to get a refund or something so i recovered the photos lol.

she paid, not happily, and didn’t tip me or anything which is whatever. BUT I DID EXACTLY WHAT WAS DISCUSSED.

let me know if i’m being dramatic 😭

i dont know

just venting i suppose. i have been so depressed since i can remember. my mother shot herself when i was a kid. i saw. my father technically isn’t my biological father, but he used to be the best. he used to be my best friend. when i went to college it’s like a switch flipped. i went to college in our town so i could live at home and still be around my siblings and my dad. but it’s like he suddenly hated me. my family says it’s because i look like my mom. but that’s not my fault. i dropped out of college and moved out. i couldn’t take it. i have paid for all of my schooling myself, nothing in my life has been handed to me. i couldn’t keep paying for college that i hated. before i dropped out i enrolled in cosmetology school. i’m now a hairstylist and i LOVE my job. but most people in my family think i’m a failure. that i’m wasting my life. i don’t get to see my extended family much, but when i do they talk about me like some sort of screw up when they think i can’t hear. my boyfriend of 5 years barely shows me affection anymore. i just don’t understand what i have done in my life to cause everyone to hate me when i love them so much. staying alive feels more difficult every single day. but i know what it feels like to lose someone due to suicide, and even though i feel as though most of my family couldn’t care less, i can’t imagine making people i love so much feel that pain.
