Sonos/Ubiquiti Households: has disabling Sonosnet solved your issues?

I am planning to upgrade my home’s network equipment and replace my tenda router and assorted switches with Ubiquiti gear. Just one problem: I have 11 Sonos speakers/amps/ports, a mix of old (playbar/play:1) and new, wired and wireless, and they have been rock solid for the ten months we have lived here using otherwise lackluster equipment. I’ve heard the horror stories about Sonos systems on Ubiquiti networks and am curious if the new option to disable sonosnet has solved the issues people were having.

For context, I am not able to wire everything, and I have WiFi turned off on all of the wired devices except for my port, which needs WiFi to take advantage of my AVR’s “Works With Sonos” featured (which wakes the AVR and tunes it to the Port’s input when playing anything over the Port).

Help me determine what router and switch I should get for my home

Hello all. I am looking to build a network rack and upgrade the equipment that came with my house. I have a 2gb fiber line and lots of access points across a 3800 sq ft house and 1000 sq ft back house.

-is the Dream Machine Pro sufficient as a router, or is it worth spending a few hundred more for the increased NAT bandwidth of the Pro Max?

-when all is said and done, I anticipate having about 23 port occupied on my switch, of which 9 or so are PoE.
-I feel like a 24 port switch is cutting it a little close or setting myself up for needing more gear in the future, but the 48 port feels like overkill. Should I get the 24 and just get another switch when the time comes, or spring for the 48?
-is the basic PoE switch underpowered for my needs? I expect to have four Pro 7 access points, 3 outdoor access points, a Lutron radio ra3 processor, and ring doorbell camera. What should I be looking for in terms of total PoE power output and in terms of PoE+/++/+++?

-right now, I have 4 AC Pro APs in the house. I plan to upgrade to Pro 7s. Is that worth it? House is wired with cat6.

Thanks for your advice!

Ideal placement of Sonos Five speakers in stereo pair?

I am having some custom cabinets and shelves installed in my home office, and I’m wondering about where to place two Sonos five speakers for optimal sound. Which shelves do you think they should go on? And should they be oriented in Landscape or vertically?

I had asked my carpenters and electricians to place ethernet and power on the first shelf above the desk, as shown in the drawing that I provided to them. However, they placed the ethernet and power two shelves above the desk, or one shelf above where I had asked them to place it.

As I see it, I now have three options:

  1. Live with the speakers on the second shelf above the desk.
  2. Place the speakers on the first shelf above the desk, as I had intended, and drill a small hole in the shelf right above them so that they can be plugged in on the shelf above.
  3. Ask the carpenters and Electrician to fix their mistake. I think this would be a lot of work.

What do you think?

Any chance of JRAD returning to LA Greek Theater in 2026?

I have come to enjoy JRAD’s annual performance at the beautiful Greek Theater in Los Angeles every October. I’ve been going for years. What a treat. Last year was incredible. They haven’t announced anything yet. Do you think there’s a chance it’s coming? Or do you think the Costa Mesa show is it for the Los Angeles area for 2026?
