TONE3000 just pushed a pretty substantial update to their free NAM plugin and standalone app.

• Native search instead of the embedded web browser
• Pitch shift / transpose with expression pedal support (apparently very low latency) EDIT: Pitch shift is not enabled by default. To turn it on: Settings > Plugin Settings > "Show Pitch Shift"
• Dual mono for running stereo sources through the same mono chain (huge time saver)
• New noise gate controls release, hold, and range
• Gear icons when you load local NAM/IR files
• 75% less UI CPU usage after removing the embedded web browser?!

It’s also cool that a ton of the fixes/features came from open-source contributors. Open source!!!!!!

TONE3000 just released a free, open-source NAM plugin.

The biggest thing is that you can browse the whole TONE3000 library directly inside the plugin. No downloading NAM files, unzipping folders, organizing everything, then loading them into another plugin.

You can basically just open it, pick a tone, and play. There’s also a standalone version if you don’t want to use a DAW.

It has a bunch of more advanced stuff too:

• Chains: Stack unlimited NAM captures and IRs
• Stereo: Dual chains, stereo widener, stereo input, etc.
• Local files: Drag and drop your own NAM files and IRs
• Offline: Works offline once your tones are loaded
• Advanced: Calibration, oversampling, MIDI mapping, and more

It works in all the major DAWs, including Pro Tools.

Darkglass Anagram can now run up to 5 A2-Full or 9 A2-Lite NAM captures simultaneously. You can also browse TONE3000 directly in the Darkglass Suite, send tones straight to Anagram. And they have a fancy new interface designed specifically for TONE3000 on the Anagram!

Jordan Valeriote, the guy behind Black Salt Audio and Hardcore Music Studio, just launched NAM Rig, a free amp sim plugin that connects directly to TONE3000 through its API.

There are already a lot of plugins that connect to the TONE3000 API, letting you browse and load tones without visiting the site, downloading the capture, and then selecting it from your local files like the official Gateway plugin. But I haven’t been completely happy with most of them... the interfaces can be messy, or there are bugs etc.

This is the first one I’ve tried thats genuinely intuitive. You open the plugin, log in to your TONE3000 account, and your favorites, recently viewed tones, and even private tones you’ve created are immediately available without leaving the plugin. You can also search and load tones from the entire TONE3000 library right inside the plugin - it's so much better.

Oh, and it works in all DAWs including Pro-Tools!!!

Now you can browse TONE3000 directly in Sonulab's VoidX-Control app. This means you don't have to download and upload NAM files and IRs from TONE3000. Much easier and better! It works in both the StompStation and StompStation Pro.

Lava Music has integrated the TONE3000 API so that you can browse and load NAM files natively in the Lava Studio! This is a really beautiful device and it's so exciting to see more and more legit hardware companies adopt A2. The Lava Studio supports A2-Lite Amp Head captures which you can pair with all of the Lava effects on the amp. Hopefully they'll support more NAM captures like full rigs, pedals, outboard and IR from TONE3000 in the future??? so exciting

Wow looks like the new Neural Amp Modeler A2 is more accurate / sounds better than Neural DSP Quad Cortex V2, IK Multimedia ToneX, and Line 6 Helix Proxy by a LOT in blind listening tests. Check out the blog post for the full results.

Looks like A2 can be run as two size. One size is called A2-Full and the other is A2-Lite. A2-Full looks to be a clear and away winner in the blind listening tests and quantitative tests. But even A2-Lite beats Neural, ToneX and Line6 in their testing! Because A2-Lite it's so efficient it can run on a $3 chip that's found in a lot of budget multi effects pedals. Hopefully this means companies like Hotone, Sonicake etc. don't need to "convert" NAM models into lower quality / worse sounding models so they can fit on their hardware.

Also HeadRush is adopting A2! Lots of news in this blog post.

Is this a turning point for the industry?

Blackstar put up an official "verified" profile on TONE3000 and released free Neural Amp Modeler captures of a ton of their gear. Amp heads, full rigs, and pedals across the Artisan Series, St. James 100, Series One 100 MK II, the TV-10 AH/BH and way way more stuff. Everything launched today is free! They're official, not community captures and sound really good. I've never actually played a Blackstar amp and I learned a lot about their gear in the descriptions. I'm a big fan of the Scorpions and didn't know that Uli Jon Roth used an Artisan 100!
