No pour agar - Can I fully close these lids or do I need to open it slightly or modify the lid during sterilisation?

First time doing agar plates and wanting to do the no-pour method. I received these pp5 condiment cups with the lid attached to the cup, and the description says "leak-resistant storage" when the lid is closed.

I'm planning on using my Instant Pot Duo for sterilisation where it's max 12 psi. If I use the "pressure cook" setting on high for 45 min and leaving it in there to cool for 2-3 hours, will that be enough?

Would I be fine fully closing the lid when I put it into my instant pot for sterilisation? Would I need to wrap it with parafilm, drill a hole into it and cover with micropore tape or keep it opened slightly? I found when I keep it open slightly, there's a bit of opened gap so I'm not sure if it would be fine

Many thanks in advance!

Question about setting up outdoor growing condition for oyster mushrooms (first time grower)

Hi all, first time growing mushrooms and starting from liquid culture on an agar plate (also first time making agar plates). Since it's my first time with all this, I expected a high failure rate at each stage due to contamination where I would end up throwing some out.

Well, the failure rate is lower than I expected so now I have 15 (big) bags of oyster mushrooms that look like they'll be pinning and going into fruiting conditions.

I've read about making sure not to breathe in large amount of spores and originally I was going to grow them indoors but with 15 bags, I'll need to move outdoors.

Problems with growing outdoors is:

  • any area that's not my balcony, the possums have access to it and in the past, anything we've grown outdoors has 100% failed because of them (even with nets or barriers)
  • my balcony gets lots of direct sunlight and I've read oyster mushrooms hate that
  • I can't place the bags on the ground or a low bench as my roommate is concerned her dog will eat them all
  • a grow tent is also not an option either

Given all that, I'm wanting to figure out how to setup the area so I can actually see the mushrooms fruit and I can harvest the fruits of my labour.

Does anyone have suggestions for how I could set this up under these constraints?

Has anyone tried Team Basework's Ignite videos? Also questions on which membership might be for me!

My usual pole studio closed down and I want to still be able to practice at home. I saw Team Basework has a membership for "ignite" that seems to be targeted towards floorwork but there's no previews/demos on what the program is like. At the studios I've been to, it's only been focused on pole and not so much floor, so I'm quite interested in learning it

For those who have tried Ignite, can you tell me more on what the videos are like?

How beginner friendly are Team Basework's videos as well?

In the past, online learning has never really worked for me, I've always needed something structured, external accountability and physically being present at a studio to see progress and actively work on pole. Now that the studio is closed and the closest one is a 2 hour commute, I don't really have a choice.

Since I haven't had success with online learning in the past, I'm wary of spending/committing to an expensive membership in case I don't end up using it. How much more "worth it" is the All Access membership compared to the Tutorials only or Ignite only membership?

Is a desktop valuation acceptable to the ATO/QRO for property gifting and CGT purposes?

We are currently in the process of gifting an investment property located in Brisbane to a family member and need to get an independent valuation report done for transfer/stamp duty and CGT purposes.

So far, every valuer we've spoke to insisted on an in-person, physical inspection of the property before they'll issue the report with the exception of one (the only one who can do the report in our required timeframe) who said that for a Brisbane property, a physical inspection is not legally required.

I’m a bit wary since he is the only one saying this. I want to make sure we do this properly so it doesn't cause issues down the track with QRO or the ATO.

Does anyone have any advice on this or know if a desktop valuation is actually acceptable to the ATO and QRO for related-party transfers?

I'm working as a junior tax assistant and I was hoping someone could help clarify my understanding on how TFE and IAWO works for vehicles first used for private purposes and later used for business (I've been working on sole traders).

I got confused because I put it through ChatGPT and it said opening adjustable value = purchase price despite having private use which seems wrong?

(I'm working on TFE because I'm looking at a client who might need to do an amended tax return for FY23)

1. For the TFE situation:

M/V purchase date 1 Jan 2021
Purchase price $30,000
First used in business 1 July 2022
Logbook business-use % 90%
Method Prime Cost method

Is this the correct calculation for it?

  • Depreciation for private use: ($30,000 x 1/8 years useful life x 546/365) = $5,610
  • $30,000 - $5,610 = $24,390
  • $24,390 x 90% business use = $21,951 depreciation expense at 30 June 2023

2. For IAWO situation:

M/V purchase date 1 January 2018
Purchase price $19,500
First used in business 1 July 2025
Logbook business-use % 90%
Effective life as per ATO 8 years
Method Prime Cost method

My calculation:

  • Purchase date still within useful life so there's still 1.5 years left and need to calculate opening adjustable value
  • Asset cost less than $20,000 so IAWO can be used
  • Private depreciation = $19,500 x 1/8 years useful life x 6.5 years private use = $15,843.75
  • Opening adjustable value = $19,500 - $15,843.75 = $3,656.25
  • FY25 M/V expense = $3,656.25 x 90% = $3,290.63

Is this correct?

Also, I just wanted to check that if the motor vehicle was $20,000 instead of $19,500, that would be IAWO can't be used and we would then need to look at small business pool, is that right?

Thanks in advance!
