2008 xterra mechanic advice
Hello Please advise.. I’ve tried my best to stay on top of maintenance for my 2008 xterra with 107K miles
about a week ago I had gotten an oil change at Walmart because I saw I was due. Before my car had work no problem . After oil change through the week I noticed when I went to start my X it would take 20-25 seconds with key in ignition before its startup.
Few days go by I start driving on the highway idled at 70mph. Went to accelerate it to 80 and it started jolting and then quickly followed by smoke under the hood. I have triple a tow it to a mechanic. He tells me he found a crack in my radiator. I’m not sure how that’s possible considering I have never hit anything which got me thinking could it have been vandalized? The walmart employee seemed to be having a bad day as it was down pouring when I brought it in..
The mechanic says it could be because of the Florida heat and that it is made of plactic..
He said send him 200 to replace crankshaft sensor first thing so I did. And “it didn’t fix it”
now he’s talking about a compression check for $300 to further diagnose
Followed by $1400 for gasket replacement (if needs be)
Along with radiator replacement.
I would rather get my car fixed as I’m not ready to say goodbye. Is this the path to recovery? Does it seem my mechanic knows the way? Reasonable pricing?
Any advice and insight is appreciated.
