Can someone explain the appeal of Crimson Rivers to me?

I’m about 34 chapters in, and I genuinely don’t get the hype. So far it just feels like a poorly written Hunger Games AU with endless overpsychologizing, pages of dialogue that don’t really go anywhere, and characters whose personalities just feel… off.

The writing style also keeps pulling me out of the story. The author has these little habits they repeat constantly, phrases like “quite literally” every other chapter, or randomly throwing in vulgarisms that feel like they’re only there to force emotional intensity. Instead of making scenes hit harder, it just starts to feel repetitive and a bit melodramatic.

I’m not trying to bash it or tell people they’re wrong for loving it. It’s recommended so often that I honestly feel like I must be missing something.
Does it change later on, or is this basically what the rest of the fic is like? If I’m still feeling this way after 34 chapters, is it worth continuing, or is it probably just not for me?

I’d genuinely like to hear what people love about it, because right now I’m struggling to see why it’s considered such a fandom classic.
