Choices or The last enemy

So, I want to start a new book but I am confused which should I start. I know both are completely different but that fact adds to my confusion even more. What if I read Choices and it ruins Jily ( I have already read OTB and trust me I am already JEGULUS shipper ) for me forever and then I won't be interested in TLE?

And I really want to read TLE so I can start with it but I also crave for Wolfstar and in TLE there is no wolfstar yet. I am completely confused.... What to do??????? Please help me guys.

Brainstorming ideas on how Slytherin was in first war/Marauders era.

I'm writing a fic with Regulus going into Slytherin and I've not fully decided how I'm going to set up the Slytherin house to introduce him to it. For context he's going in with a rather callous/entitled/power hungry personality for background reasons.

I do have the idea that the upper years are definitely studying the dark arts in secret and that becomes a recruitment ground for Voldemort but that's going to be quite far away and they wouldn't let the younger years in.

What kind of nuance have the typical fanon depictions of Slytherin missed? What would be interesting to read? Usually we see some kind of pureblood politics to varying extents, and a level of separation from the other houses. Slytherin is seen to be very insular, except maybe to a few purebloods/Ravenclaws. And they have a very strict informal hierarchy in a lot of fanon.

Half-bloods in the house are probably treated pretty badly at this point - but to what extent? Snape was able to maintain some friendship with Lily in canon after all, and he eventually goes from friendship with her to being convinced to join the Death Eaters. So he wasn't totally marginalised/isolated in Slytherin even though he was the exact type of half-blood that should have been.

And there's often a might makes right attitude in some fics - you need to prove yourself/gain respect to be taken seriously amongst peers and whoever is strongest has the most influence. Which is a natural point to create conflict between MC and other upstarts. It seems this is how Tom Riddle was able to gain respect/power in the house despite being a halfblood (or he gaslighted them all by keeping his background a secret idk).

How is Slughorn as head of slytherin - he's not a blood purist but he's a fan of people with influence/potential, and his whole slug club. Very slytherin in his self-interest.

I've seen some good depictions but I'm not sure what exactly I want to do with it. I do enjoy politics so that and the war will definitely feature, but I also feel like that's maybe better used in later years? I also feel like I'm kind of set in my way of thinking about slytherin from how I've seen it written and need some perspective on how it could be different bc we don't actually know how it is from canon.

I'm open to any headcanon/fanon/AU ideas!

Which fanfics do you consider canon?

Well, this question came about because I have an idea for a fanfic set in the Marauders era (with a oc) I'm currently reading ATYD (I haven't finished the last book) and I wanted to know what you all think.

Do you think ATYD is considered canon, or are there any other fanfics that you love that you consider canon?

I'm not sure if I phrased the question well, I hope you understood :)

Edit: I'm not saying that a fanfic is necessarily canon, but rather which ones you personally consider canon for whatever reason.

why is bartydora not more popular?

hoping i dont get dogged on as im just genuinely curious. its honestly one of my favorite ships simply because of the aesthetics, tropes, and dynamics the ship entails. more specifically if you see pandora as a rosier twin. barty being a playboy and sleeping around w everyone under the sun but he falls for his best friends sister. shes bad with social cues and incredibly naive so hes always teasing her. they also just have very opposite but complimentary aesthetics that look good together. idk i just see so much potential for the ship and im genuinely shocked its not very common.

they could be trying to hide the relationship, pandora could be in denial and scared of hurting her brother, etc. i just think theyre also both weird in very different ways but are probably one of the few people who understand the other. idk wanted to hear others thoughts!

Help writing a fic

Hello! I've been in this fandom for like 5/6 years and just started using Reddit again after stopping for years. For the past year and a half, I've been planning on writing a football AU fic. (soccer if you're from the US) For the past couple of weeks, I've been developing my ideas a lot, and I'm so hyped. I want it to have accurate British slang and not some stereotypical mess. I have picked cities where the characters are from because I know it influences slang and such, just like it does in every country. If someone who could help me is interested and has the time to do it, I'd love it if you reached out <3 I hope this is the right flair

New Marauders Slideshow

Hi guys! I'm introducing a friend to the marauders, and I went to send him the marauders slideshow by Sahara and Teagan that I used to first get my bearings in the fandom. While this slideshow is super detailed and helpful, I felt it was slightly outdated so I thought I'd make a newer one! I'm posting it here in case anyone is interested in checking it out :) Please let me know if you feel I'm missing anything (I specifically could use help adding details for the Slytherin skittles) or if I have anything wrong. Happy reading!

Hii, help a person out!!

I'm writing a fanfic (Remus Lupin and The Art of Gaslighting) and I have a theory that you can "manipulate" a boggart. Mainly because I don't see the moon being Remus deepest darkest fear, since he, at this point, has been a werewolf for what? 29 year? (Smt like that)

I personally believe it would be something closer to home (Like his friends dying/getting hurt, or him having hurt one of them)

So I wanted to include a scene where Remus is preparing for class and accidently gets caught of gaurd by the boggart and sees his "real boggart" and then decides he's gonna need to manipulate it later on (In class, so the students sees the moon instead or as Harry calls it 'A floating silver ball')

What do you think his true deepest darkest fear would be? I would love if it was Wolfstar coded since my fanfiction is wolfstar but like- totally fine if it isn't. It just needs to be something he doesn't want his students to see.

What’s with the hate??

I’ve been writing fics for a long time (also within the fandom), but recently I’ve had several hate comments - or at the very least not so kind ones - within such a short time period and I’m like ???

You don’t have to like my fics, I don’t give a shit. Like you’re free not to read them. That’s fine. But this is… Not necessary.

Has anybody else noticed or experienced this or is it just a coincidence?

What do you think the werewolf version of Lupin is like?

I've read the Harry Potter books and I'm now at the beginning of the last book in the ATYD series. Something that intrigues me is the depiction of Remus Lupin's werewolf form. I've seen some people draw/describe him as he is in the movies, but I've also seen drawings that show him as a scarred wolf. I think it's cute, but I'd like to know your opinion (also because I want to write a fanfic with the protagonist as a werewolf).

I'm adding images I found on Pinterest to illustrate what I mean.

What do you think? What does Lupin's werewolf form look like? Like a wolf or something different?

Btw, sorry if my English is bad, I use Google Translate :p

You can like Canon and Fanon

I love canon, I love canon a lot. I love Jily, I love Remadora, I love Sirius' faults. But loving a character/finding them interesting is NOT the same thing as condoning their actions.

At the same time, I also really like wolfstar as a pairing, whatever rendition of it we end up it. I don't personally love the way it is commonly depicted/fanon version of their relationship where the core of it is changed, but I do love the ship.

Ik that it's not canon, I have never once proclaimed it to be canon, never will. Ik that they are like brothers in canon and I like that too. I just think that there are elements that can make their relationship really interesting and that me wanting to tweak the story slightly while keeping their canon personalities isn't wrong.

The problem arises when people on purpose deny canon and proclaim fanon to be canon. But if people aren't delusional, then let them believe what they want.

Peter Pettigrew was the worst character in the hp and marauders universe and I hate it when people defend him

I think theres no excuse for what he did, he could've left and started a new life, he could've stopped talking to the marauders if he felt left out, voldemort didnt respect him and neither did the death eaters, he served as their servant, he handed over ppl who loved him on a silver platter in an act of selfishness and no amount of hurt can justify that. It could've been different if he had just been honest. James never ever left him out on purpose and Remus did respect him. Peter was good at chess, he could've done smth w that but instead he CHOSE to keep feeling bad for himself and took the easy way out. How can someone not care at all about their friends, im not saying sirius was the best to him but what about James? he actually loved Peter and would have laid down his life for him if given the chance, all three of them wouldve. I think Peter was just a selfish coward who betrayed his friends and I wish sirius had killed him in the shack that night.

I’m trying to find a quote from Art Heist Baby

I can’t remember what it was word for word but I remember Regulus once mentioned a quote from another book about being broken of something and I can’t find it. I don’t really have time to scroll through the entire book and I was hoping someone knows what quote I mean🙏 Also I don’t know if the tag is right but I think it’s the closest to what I’m asking about

Can someone explain the marauders really quickly to me?? (Urgent)

Okay so I've been talking with this girl for a bit and she's soo cool and I have such a crush on her, we met through a different fandom so we both know a lot abt fandoms and stuff.

She said she loves the marauders and bc I want her to like me I said I do as well (I know the marauders is abt like a previous generation in Harry Potter, and that's abt it..)

but now she's like constantly talking abt it to me and I want to know what she's talking abt and I want to understand her passion. But idk where to start, there's so much different information in so many different places, and I'm getting kind of overwhelmed..

Could someone please give me a rundown on the basics and maybe some like fun things to throw into conversation??

<3
