I think this might just be a small section of the book so sorry about that but the extract is:

one character is telling the mc about a story where there is this witch/monster that if someone, while they are sleeping, hangs their arms/legs off the side of the bed, the witch will eat the limbs

they then give an example of a brother and sister (I think) (who were either royal or just important) where one of the siblings hangs either a leg or an arm off of the bed, and when they wake up their leg is completely gone and they get rushed off out of the room

I'm only pretty sure it was a book because I remember the words to the story rather than how the characters looked like and I usually remember character designs well

ok so hear me out

Jon is basically an avatar of the extinction (or at least heavily marked by it)

Like I know that Elias specifically states that Jon doesn’t have a mark from the extinction but Jon was almost entirely responsible for (well, got manipulated into) starting the eyepocalypse and basically ending humanity as we know it

I feel like he is as close to an avatar of the extinction that anyone could ever truly be

I find Jon's struggle with fate vs free will at the end of s5 really interesting and I love this topic so I'm going to ramble about it

I love the concept that even if a person fully believes their actions are their own another being(person or not) could have influenced their mindset so much that if they hadn't then the person might not be making the same decisions

I really like this topic because I researched it a lot when I did Macbeth in school. Macbeth received prophecies from the witches, believing that whatever was to happen would be up to fate and was pre-determined but really it was only because of him hearing about these prophecies that he took the actions he did

Also, Jon from S2-4 does all he can to stop the world from ending, and it is only through these measures he takes that he gains the marks from those entities that causes the world to end (also the fact he got the final mark (the lonely) from saving the person he loved is so distressing omfg)

both these characters take extreme measures to avoid terrible fates (of their own/the world) but in doing so they only cement the inevitability of their demise

don't you just love self fulfilling prophecies
