My coach is playing in the quarter-finals of a tournament tomorrow and i'm somehow more nervous than he is

My coach and kids coach is ranked top 100 in the country. This week he’s playing a big tournament, and he is seeded and he just made the quarterfinals.

i found out from chatting with someone at the club and now I’m just refreshing the tournament page like it's my problem

for context, this is the guy who on Tuesday morning was telling me to relax my grip and stop muscling my forehand. I was complaining about my serve. meanwhile he was about to go play a national-level QF

i don't know why I’m so invested. maybe because if my coach is good enough to make a QF at this level then every little thing he's been telling me to fix means something

Anyone else have a coach who competes at a high level? how do you handle the realization that your lessons are basically free wisdom from someone way above your tier

going to try not to spam the refresh button tomorrow. no promise ;)

I asked my coach to stop telling me I’m doing well. Great decision on my part!

I asked my coach to stop telling me I'm doing well.

He was always so encouraging. “Great shot, much better, You’re doing so well”

I loved it, until I  played a match and realized I had no idea what I was actually needed to fix. I asked him to be more honest with me, to tell me exactly what’s wrong.  I am not taking private lessons for someone to shove sugar my way…. I want real training.

Since then my game has improved a bit, but I still fell like I need more genuine feedback.

Has anyone else found that honest feedback was a major thing that finally improved your game?

I started playing four years ago with zero athletic background.
Here’s what I know now that i wish someone had told me when I started:

1- Your non- dominant had controls your backhand.

2- Footwork is so important to learn and practice!!!

3- I will plateau many times, but keep working! Don’t give up.

Would love to build a list from this thread 😄🎾

I had a booking at an indoor court. Family stuff came up and I almost cancelled. Then I thought — when's the last time I did something just for me?
So I went. By myself. Hit against the wall for an hour. Didn't speak to another human. Just hit the ball.
I haven't felt that relaxed in weeks.

I think tennis is therapy for me and I'm happy I’m figuring this out!

Do others feel this way?
Is tennis more than just a sport for you? 😊

I’m a lucky enough to have this as my morning view while I drink coffee imagining I’m a 5.0.

In my mind I’m ready to join the tour 😆🤪

Does anyone else have the same thoughts when gazing at a court?

How does everyone keep their balls new - playable for longer than couple of sessions? I feel like after a couple of sessions they are already done! Ready to hand over to my dog 🐶

Is there a way to get more life out of them? I’ve seen the Pressuebox and Gexco tennis ball saver. Do they work or is it another gimmick?

Happy Sunday! 😊
