Samsung Fridge water dispenser not working after replacing water filter case assembly

Hello and thanks for looking,

We have a Samsung RF28R7351DT/AA refrigerator. The water dispenser has progressively gotten worse and worse and on Thursday night I replaced the water filter case assembly to no avail.

Background: we started noticing issues with the dispenser about 3 months ago. It used to work every time you would press it, then you would press it and get a buzzing sound and no water flowing out. Over time it got even worse, 5-10 pushes and buzzes before you'd get water coming out.

Weirdness: when we would water the lawn, the dispenser started working perfectly each time, so I thought maybe the lower water pressure was helping. Another side note, we've never used the water filter for the fridge and it's been working great for years. Also, the ice dispenser maker and dispenser works great (I actually had to replace the auger motor recently).

So I thought, I'm gonna put in a filter because it might reduce the water pressure enough to help. I installed it, and about a cup of water came out before it stopped flowing. Then, it just died completely. The buzzing sound became very faint and no matter how many times you pressed it, no water would flow. I removed the filter, still no luck.

Recently: I replaced the entire Samsung water filter case assembly with a new one (DA82-02870A). And I put in the filter.A half cup of water came out for about a two seconds before stopping again. Now we just hear the buzzing again.

Any thoughts on what to do next? This thing has given us so much trouble.

Thanks a lot for any advice.

Samsung fridge w/ absolutely no power (Model: RF28R7351DT)

Hey everyone, happy Sunday.

I have a Samsung RF28R7351DT refrigerator and went to bed on Thursday night about 11 p.m. and woke up to it completely powered off (no lights, no sounds) on Friday morning at 6:30 a.m. Checked the breaker, no trip. Plugged it into a different working socket in the kitchen, still completely dead.

Looking around the internet and YouTube, I saw people recommended to check the fuse-block, so with the power plug out of the wall socket, I checked every fuse for continuity, and every fuse was good.

Then, I checked the one and only fuse on the main board and there's no continuity. I thought for a second maybe it was a surge and maybe I could solder in a replacement identical fuse. But, I had seen folks on YouTube have luck with simply replacing the main board, so I ran to an appliance parts store and grabbed a main board replacement. I removed the old board and installed the new one but wanted to make sure that there wasn’t some issue that was going to blow the fuse again or potentially hurt the new $275 board. One of those tests was checking the resistance between the prongs on the refrigerator plug itself, and when I checked the hot to ground, it showed about 18 ohms resistance.

Since then I’ve been looking for the cause of this 18 ohm resistance. I've searched for it in the fuse-block, in the main board, I've wiggled wires to see if that makes it disappear, and now I'm checking connections in the doors. I’m green to all of this and thought it would be wise to check in with you all to see if anyone has experience with something similar. iFixit doesn't seem to have anything on complete power loss for this fridge.

Thanks in advance for any advice. I can provide more info if needed too.

EDIT: Grammar and typos

Samsung RF28F7351DT Leaking Under Front Right

Hi there,

Thanks for taking the time to help. Trying to fix my fridge/freezer leak. Here's the story/my notes on this repair-in-progress (pictures: https://postimg.cc/gallery/hnYP851 )

Months ago:

  • Leak began at front right bottom corner
    • This is where the pull-out freezer is
  • Tried fixing the "freezer defrost drain"
    • Went in, thawed it out, put it back together
      • Interestingly, it seemed like it worked for one day
    • Issue came back next morning: little puddle of water under front right corner again
    • Found a “hack/mod” on YouTube: wrapped copper wire around the "heating element" and fed that into the freezer defrost drain to keep it warm (https://www.youtube.com/shorts/7WCMCwBPgRo)
    • That still didn’t fix it
    • I tried two different copper wires: one thick, one thin. After the thick one didn’t work the first time, I tried thin copper wire.
    • Interestingly, after the second time I put the copper wire on, the water pitcher stopped working, but that's the least of my worries
  • It must NOT be the freezer defrost drain (hole).

I honestly got busy with life, kept a towel down there for months, and am now back at it. This drain hole is the main issue most people face, so I just assumed it was my issue. But even the inside of the pull out freezer is bone-dry, so it's not the freezer defrost drain.

Today, 6/11:

  • Turned off water supply using the water supply valve behind fridge to gain a better understanding of the issue
    • The thinking is that if there is no puddle, there is an issue with a component that is a part of the water system
    • For example, the filter housing, water inlet valve, water tubing, ice maker fill line, dispenser/autofill system, a loose or cracked connection, etc.
    • If on the other hand, the leak persists even with the water supply off, then it must be a condensation issue, a drain pan issue, a door seal issue, or even a leveling issue (as opposed to a pressurized water leak)
  • Hours later: the leak is STILL THERE, even with no water flow to the fridge. It is bone dry anywhere else besides this corner.

I finally took a very deliberate look and I'm pretty sure it's a bad seal around the pull out freezer drawer. Is replacing the freezer drawer gasket something feasible as a DIY?

Or am I just off the mark overall? Would love any input and thanks again.
