In August urmează raportarea financiară pentru H1 2026.

Advice about setting up a VPN

Guys, I am very new into this. Due to recent concerns over my cloud storage accounts, I build a server at home. It's running TrueNAS to backup all my files. Because it's not a bought NAS and the hardware I had allows it, I also installed a Windows VM for some tasks that I want to run unattended from anywhere in the world, and the Home Assistant is also running in another VM.

I looked for the easiest way for a newbie to have VPN access, and I liked Tailscale for ease f use and not requiring any open ports. Then I asked a firend of mine about it, his job is actually consists in government contracts for cyber security and setting up servers and networks. He was recently hired by the Swiss government, and he moved over there. Sometimes I feel like he is overly caucious, especially for home use scenarios.

I told him my options: Tailscale or using my Omada router for WireGuard. He dismissed both options. He doesn't trust Tailscale because if there is any sort of firewall or NAT blocking then data is passed through peers, and Omada, he said he can't be sure everthing is up to date and secure. He told me to use a separate network card between the ISP ONT and my router and have VM running opensense or pfsense.

I feel like I am getting in super complicated solutions, especially for a newbie.

What I don't understand about Tailscale is if I am connected to the local network at home, does it treat my data locally and do I get full speed like in a LAN? Or is WireGuard a better solution, considering once I set up my devies (TrueNAS, WindowsVM and HAOS) then I don't have much fiddling with it.

I am looking for a balance between safety, security and low maintanance. How important is that Tailscale doesn't require any port forwarding for the tradeoff of having a third party?

I am so confused right now that I don't even know what I'm asking and what solution is best for me...

I keep reading about Google Accounts being banned, and it worries me. Is it that bad?

I keep seeing posts of Google Accounts being permanently banned for stupid reasons with no one actually responding to appeals. I kept postponing my takeout because a NAS that can flawlessly and automatically sync my Google Photos is rare and expensive. But now I keep seeing accounts banned for taking photos of movie screens as piracy. That's ridiculous.

It's more concerning to me as I am quite deep in the Google ecosystem, with Google Pixel, Pixel Watch, Pixel Buds, Google Wifi, Google Titan Security keys, and so on. I have a Google AI 5TB subscription where I keep a huge amount of files that I need on the go or available on my laptop and my PC.

I switched from Apple years ago because I stopped liking their approach, but now Google is absolutely terrifying me with their actions. And there are not many alternatives in my case.

Are these takedowns actually so common? Are they real, or maybe the users are hiding something? What options do I have to keep my entire Google account in sync on a NAS (drive/photos). Synology is super expensive, but all the others don't have install and forget options for Google Photos.

I have a large city area, 2 towns and around 5 villages scattered over the map. The villages are areas that have extractor industries or agricultural areas around them, while the towns are in the proximity of industrial areas and a port. The main city is focused on large office areas and commercial areas.

I connected them with an extensive rail network, and I even tried a no road connection village which works surprisingly well. I recently added 6 coal power plants around the map, 4 in the proximity of cargo stations, 2 in the proximity of coal extraction areas. All are out of fuel except those 2 who have coal extractors nearby.

The cargo stations store plenty of coal, but all the trucks are in use. All stations show 16/16 trucks being on the road carying supplies. It seems like there are not enough trucks to supply everyone, and the coal plants are not supplied for extended periods of time.

Also, the trucks are actually carying supplies literally to the next cargo station on the trains route. The road route is longer than by rail, but somehow they still prefer to move the goods by road instead of the train.

Is there any way to fix this without adding coal extractors nearby? It would ruin the game for me, I love seeing supplies moving around the map, it makes the city feel alive.
