Anyone tried hard body swim baits?

Anyone tried hard body swim baits?

I noticed they’re not really that popular in Australia, compared to say the US. Most people are into soft plastics or metal jigs.

They seem like a pretty easy lure to use as a straight retrieve is all that’s needed to give it that lifelike action.

Anyone tried or have had good experience with swim baits here in Aus? Especially Sydney?

I’m thinking of picking up some pillie/sardine type ones online

Anyone here who’s had success on both bait and lures but prefer to use bait?

Was just curious as a lot of the time people transition from bait to lures and then stick with lures.

Better to go heavier, same or lighter leader to your main?

I thought the general rule was always to have a heavier leader than your main line? Eg 8lb braid with 10-12lb leader.

But I’ve seen some people saying they run 8lb braid with 6lb leader

Or 6lb braid with 6lb leader (hence matching the strength).

Not sure if makes any difference but this is for lure fishing.

Also what does each circumstance provide in terms of pros and cons

Thinking of giving lures a proper go again (Sydney) - tips?

We all start out bait fishing, whether it be prawns, squid or pillies.

After fishing for a year or two I decided to give lures a go - curly tail, fork tail, hard body divers, metals.

The positives are all there for making the switch
- Less smelly/dirty

- Last longer

- Generally cheaper overtime than constantly buying bait

- More efficient way to fish as you cover more ground

- Can avoid smaller by catches

But I never managed to get a single bite.

Since then I've just stuck with bait, and was content. But recently my friend got into fishing and wanted to make the switch to lures as well. I've got this newfound determination to give it a proper go again. I think I just gotta stick with it.

Anyone got tips on good beginner spots in Sydney and the most effective but simple retrieves? Seems you cant go wrong with the slow roll, 2-3 flicks, rod slowly back down then repeat.

Also, is lure fishing at night sort of impossible? I assume with the limited visibility, a real bait performs better.

I'll still always have a soft spot or preference for baits though, but if I manage to get some fish on plastics for the first time I might make that switch for good.

Does the NBA Cup now have more weight? We’ve got the same two teams from the Cup in the NBA Finals.

Following on from my last post about the Knicks possibly winning “the double” this season, and potentially being the first team to do it - we now have a rematch of the same teams in the Finals.

Just realized the Knicks could be the first team to win an NBA Cup and Finals in the same season
