Yes, I’m allowing myself a bonus post tonight. She might have had only one great record in her, but what a record. 10/10.

The Verve - A Northern Soul

I find it really hard to accept that this is >30 years old. When I listen back to their contemporaries like Oasis, Suede and Blur, I still like a lot of it, but they all sound ‘90s’ (especially Blur). I think the Verve have stood the test of time far better.

And yes, Urban Hymns was the big album (and is also excellent), but for me this wins… just. A Northern Soul and a dirty martini or two on a Friday night is perfection.

Love this. Very different to my usual choices, but just beautiful music; even if you think it’s not your kind of thing, I would recommend giving it a try.

Also put on D’Angelo’s Voodoo as a little bonus.

Just picked this up. I was a huge fan in the 90s and remember I recorded this from MTV as a 12-13 year old and used to watch it over and over. Great live performance.

The version of ‘State of Love and Trust’ on this is one of the ‘heaviest’ acoustic performances I can think of.
