Just wanted to share a quick heads-up for anyone boarding from Malta. They are extremely strict with hand luggage limits right now.
I had a basic fare that only included a small personal item. Here are a few things to keep in mind based on my experience:
Sizing box tolerance: If your bag doesn't slide into the metal sizing box completely smoothly (i.e., if you have to force or push it in at all), they count it as exceeding the limit.
Layering clothes: When my bag didn't fit, I put on 3 t-shirts to reduce bag volume. Surprisingly, the staff told me this was not allowed at the gate.
