Old Achaean considering a return — how much has changed?

I’ve been getting the itch to come back to Achaea after an absurdly long hiatus.

I have a character that’s apparently 599 years old now, which is hilarious to me, and I’m thinking about dusting them off and starting the climb again from “old lowbie who barely remembers anything.”

A couple questions for current/former players:

  • Is Achaea still fairly active socially/politically?
  • Is Mhaldor still a good place for heavy RP and internal politics?
  • I’m really not that interested in PvP these days. I’m more interested in faction culture, ideology, intrigue, religious stuff, city politics, etc. Is there still enough of that scene alive to sink into?
  • How welcoming is the game these days to returning players who basically have to relearn everything?
  • What are the biggest changes over the last 10-15 years that would surprise an old player?
  • How mandatory are scripting systems now compared to old Achaea?
  • Can you still meaningfully contribute politically without being a top-tier PKer?
  • How active are Houses compared to the old days?
  • Is there still room for slower-burn RP characters, or is everything conflict-driven now?
  • How much has the culture shifted from classic guild-era Achaea?

I remember loving the atmosphere and scale of the world way more than the combat itself, so I’m curious whether that side of the game is still thriving.

Also: if anyone has experience returning after a huge break, I’d love to hear how it went.

(And yes, the idea of a 599-year-old Mhaldorian emerging from the shadows confused and underlevelled is very funny to me.)

[M4F] The Witcher RP Search — Looking for a Long-Term Writing Partner

Hey everyone. I’m a longtime fan of The Witcher universe and I’m currently looking for a female writing partner interested in a long-term, character-driven roleplay set during the Witcher 3 timeline.

The games originally pulled me into the world, but the novels are what truly made me fall in love with it. The atmosphere, politics, folklore, music, worldbuilding, morally gray characters — all of it feels incredibly special to me, and I’d love to write with someone who feels the same way.

What I’m looking for:

• A female writing partner who genuinely loves The Witcher universe
• Someone interested in immersive, story-focused RP rather than quick scenes
• Appreciation for the books, Witcher 3, lore, soundtrack, art direction, and worldbuilding
• Long-term writing with strong character development and chemistry
• Daily or semi-daily replies with good communication
• Someone comfortable with mature themes and occasionally darker storytelling — because, well, this is The Witcher world
• A partner who enjoys discussing ideas, scenes, and worldbuilding outside the RP itself

A little about me:

• Male writer (40s)
• Usually write around 3 detailed paragraphs per response, sometimes more depending on the scene
• Active daily
• Big fan of slower-burn storytelling, grounded dialogue, political tension, romance, travel, monster contracts, and the darker realism of the Continent
• Currently developing what I hope becomes one of the most immersive and passionate Witcher roleplaying communities out there — a place centered around storytelling, lore, creativity, and genuine love for the IP

As for the RP itself, I’m very open to discussing ideas. I especially enjoy OC x canon or OC-focused stories that feel authentic to the setting rather than overly modernized or disconnected from the world. I want the writing to feel like it could genuinely exist alongside the events of Witcher 3.

And admittedly? I’m absolutely looking for a bit of a “Yennefer to my Geralt” kind of dynamic — sharp chemistry, tension, loyalty, wit, conflict, affection beneath the surface… the kind of relationship that actually feels earned within the world.

Honestly, I’m just hoping to find somebody who gets The Witcher. Someone who hears the Skellige soundtrack and immediately feels something. Someone who appreciates the quieter moments just as much as the violence, politics, and tragedy that define the setting. If that sounds like you, feel free to message me — I’d genuinely love to hear your ideas, favorite characters, favorite book moments, or what made you fall in love with the world in the first place.
