99.999% watch community lack originality and subject to group mentality.

I only recently got into watches, and one thing became obvious fast: most people, even the rich and successful ones, are subject to group mentality and lack originality. Repeat the same thing over and over and they'll actually believe it. Look at Rolex. It's a steel bracelet. Invicta and Citizen do the exact same thing for 1/100th the cost.

I bought my first mechanical watch around May. I was in Hong Kong and wandered into a "Christie's exhibition" without even knowing what it was. Turned out to be the HK Important Watches viewing. Three pieces caught my eye, all skeleton APs, and at the time I didn't even know what AP was.

The auction taught me something: just because a watch hammers at X doesn't mean it retails at X or is worth X. If you'd tried to outbid the winner, they might have just kept going.

Rolex aside, let's talk haute horlogerie. Back in early/mid 2026 I stumbled into the F.P. Journe boutique in SoHo knowing nothing about the brand. To me it was just a watch shop. Honestly? The watches are okay. Unique-looking, but nothing that wowed me enough to want to own one.

Then there's A. Lange & Söhne, where everyone keeps chanting "double assembly, double assembly." Bro, can you actually tell the difference between a watch assembled once and one assembled twice? No. So please stfu about it. It means jack shiiii.

I am basically the most superior watch owner on earth right now. I bought a watch knowing nothing about watches, judged purely on craftsmanship. It was beautiful, so I bought it. No "stories," no "history," nothing that could pervert my judgment. Style in its truest form. And I don't even wear it on my wrist: I wear it as a necklace, and people say they've never seen anything like it. It gets the most wrist time (neck time, for me) of anything I own. People stop me, take pictures, ask what it is. I usually don't tell them it's AP. I just smile and move on. What matters is that they get to enjoy seeing something they'd otherwise only see in a museum. The history and all the rest is irrelevant. It's beautiful, that's why you asked, and that's how you should enjoy it.
