Day 3 without our hold luggage… what are reasonable claims

Landed on Saturday - among 1000s of other people we didn’t get our bags. It’s now Tuesday afternoon and have received 1 of the 4 bags. What are some reasonable things I can claim for? Going for a weekend away on fri so do need a few things for our baby

Ferber success! Some outstanding questions…

Firstly - thanks to everyone in this sub, we have learnt a lot about scheduling and training which has really helped us! We are now into our 3rd week of ferber and just wanted to show progression for those who are curious or on the fence about it - see huckle screenshots from 2 weeks before ferber and 2 weeks after starting ferber in the comments (note the feed tracking is patchy in the day but accurate at night). His schedule is ~2.25/2.5/2.25/3 and we started sleep training at ~5.5 months. The third wake window often ends up being 2.25 instead of 2.5 as we try to preserve the 3 hour wake window before he goes into the cot.

Overall we have significantly reduced the number of night wakes and false starts, as well as mostly reducing to 1 feed at night now which we are super happy about. Additionally, he seems more able to do longer naps in his cot now which were all only 30-40 min previously. However, we have a few questions/areas we’d appreciate feedback on:

  1. While most days he will only protest cry a for a minute or so at bedtime, sometimes he has more severe ones (5-10mins). Is this ok? Do we want to adjust something? It could also be linked to when dad (me) does the bedtime… any way to overcome that or best for mum to handle at the moment? He was a huge bedtime protester before so we have come a long way but wondering if there is more we can do

  2. He still often wakes happy from a nap and is unable to link sleep cycles. Today he cried a lot after waking from first sleep cycle - we knew he was tired and probably needed more sleep so didn’t go in immediately to get him. He cried for almost 10 mins and then fell asleep for another 40 mins. Should we have intervened? How much of a chance should we give him to connect nap cycle

  3. Overall, do people let up on the ferber method now that we have a routine in place? (I.e. comfort baby more than just check ins) or will that just undo everything. He isn’t waking much in the night now excluding for feeds…it doesn’t feel nice leaving him to cry at this point. We were expecting it to be bad for the first week or so (although never been longer than 20 mins if broken crying) but he does still seem to have bursts of crying.

To Ferber or not? Baby has improved from regression but still waking

Our son turned 5 mos today. It feels like he has turned a corner in the past 2 weeks following an awful 3-week long '4 month regression', where he would protest bed time HUGELY and wake every 30-60 mins most nights until 4am-ish.... Now he does seem to be able to link his sleep cycles better independently (which we even see visibly on the baby monitor), but we still have minimum of 4 wake ups from 8pm to 7.30am where we need to intervene with rocking of the cot or feeding. The bedtime protests are also significantly improved. Naps have weirdly always been fine if assisted by motion

During the 4mo regression we were very set on doing the Ferber method when he turned 5mos, to support his ability to self-sooth as well as being able to 'cure' his addiction to motion (While we have been able to move away from feeding to sleep, he strongly relies on the cot being rocked/pram in motion/car in motion for all sleeping/naps - note he has never liked being rocked in arms, only ever in cot/pram/car)

Current schedule is roughly 2.25/2.5/~2/~2.25

  • Wakes at 7.30am (well he usually stirs at 6.30am but we rock the cot so goes down for a another hour)
  • 1st nap at 9.45am (capped at 30 mins)
  • 2nd nap at 12.45pm (we encourage this to be as long as possible - aiming to get him to link a couple of cycles by rocking pram/cot - on average probably does 1hr 20min)
  • 3rd power nap at ~5.30pm (capped at 15 mins - unless he did a very short 2nd/lunch nap in which case he has more)
  • Bed at 7.45pm (routine includes feed, fresh nappy, bedtime book)
  • Note he is exclusively breastfed / expressed milk in bottle
  • Note he seems to be a 'low sleep needs' baby-he has never been one of these babies that naps for long periods. Even from birth, his average total nap time has only ever been 2-2.5 hours per day (uncapped)

Question is: Do we want to use Ferber to 'optimise' his sleep further down to 1-2 wakes (incl. feed) and move away from motion-assistance? Or do we want to consider a softer approach / just hope his sleep continues to further improve?

Any thoughts welcome :-)
