Two upcoming opportunities to advocate for Connecticut Ave bike lanes!
You probably remember the Connecticut Avenue bike lane saga -- long story short, DDOT had spent years planning to build a great protected bike lane on about 3.5 miles of Connecticut Avenue, before Mayor Bowser suddenly cancelled the project in spring 2024. From that moment on, it was clear that the plan was dead, at least as long as Mayor Bowser was in office.
But as you know, we're getting a new mayor next year, which means this is our best chance (maybe our only chance) to get the project re-started and back on track. We need to make sure that incoming mayor Janeese Lewis George knows this project is important to us and knows that she should prioritize it as soon as she takes office.
To that end, there are two opportunities coming up this month to help draw attention to the issue:
First, mayor-to-be Lewis George is holding listening sessions in all 8 wards to get input from residents before she takes office. The ward 3 session will be on Thursday, September 24 from 5:30 – 8:30pm. You can RSVP here: https://www.mobilize.us/janeesefordc/event/1008203/
Next, on the morning of Wednesday, September 30, WABA is hosting a group ride down Connecticut Ave, starting at Chevy Chase Circle and going to Dupont Circle: https://waba.org/event/ct-ave-09-30-26/
Please join us for one or both of these events and help spread the word! The more people we can turn out, the louder our message will be. Although to be honest if you have to pick one I'd say the JLG town hall is more important.
Hope to see you all there!
you know, this performing arts center is quite similar to the one named after john f kennedy
just learned that these are both the same actor, Kevin Eldon
maybe you all knew this already and i'm just an idiot (in america) but i guess that cookery book WAS useful after all
Quilting ideas help!
Hello! As seems to happen every time, I've got a finished quilt top and not sure how to quilt it. I am pretty sure I want to hand quilt it though I'm open to doing it on my home machine (I don't want to send it to a long armer). Maybe outline each triangle? outline each piece of fabric (so the triangles and the various rectangles around them)? Maybe some kind of winding line through the gray space between the triangles? Or just straight lines, either parallel to the edges or at a 45 degree angle?
for scale, the quilt is about 4 feet square and I'm planning for it to be a wall hanging.
thank you all!
