Looking for friendly faces & fun? Join us at board games, tomorrow@6!

Hi all!

If you're looking to find a welcoming group of folks who like to get together, hang out, and play games, consider joining us at Dystopian Brewing* this Thursday (8/20), at 6pm! This will be my monthly post reminding people that yes, community exists, and you are welcome to join us!

Basically, what happens? Members of the community bring their own games. We share them, our only ask is that you try to respect them and try to put them back where you got them :) Any big games usually start between 6-7 since that makes it substantially more likely we'll finish them, but other new games start throughout the night. Whenever one game wraps up, people will shuffle around to find another.

It's a great way to meet new people (I moved here two years ago and have made many new friends through this group!) and in my opinion it is a diverse and affirming crowd, we try very hard to welcome newcomers, and if you're feeling shy don't feel bad messaging me! I can help you find a group to start in with and introduce you; it's totally fine! I'm a smallish redhead and I'll probably be in a cat shirt. You can't miss me.

Some FAQs:

Food? The space allows you to bring your own food in. Please be kind and clean up any mess.

Nonalcoholic options? Yes, they carry NA beers and some sodas, if I remember correctly (I'll double check this week for a better answer next time).

Minors? Not explictly disallowed, I believe the space allows minors. However, we don't shy away from adult topics in our conversations and you may wish to attend without a minor first to evaluate suitability.

Ages? Most of us are late 20's and up. We're primarily people in our 30s but we have a large age range and I am not going to guess at the age of our oldest members :P

Type of games: There's no snobbishness here, play what you like. Anything from light party games to mid-heavy-weights (we still gotta finish before they close at 10). Want to play word games and just drink and hang out? You can! Want to play something that hurts your brain, and swap to something else every week? YOU CAN! And you can definitely find people to set up longer games with on the weekends, if that's your jam.

How often? I'll probably post monthly, but this happens weekly; the only times we've skipped in recent memory have been when Thursday was Thanksgiving or Christmas.

----

* After a lengthy period of discussion and a group vote, the Thursday board game crew has decided our "home" will be Dystopian Brewing for the foreseeable future. Many thanks to the other suggestions we've seen posed--as a group, we discussed our priorities & needs and arrived at this decision with a strong majority vote after narrowing down between 20+ venues in town.

Thursday Game Night 8/13: Dickey's!

Hi all,

This week (8/13), the Thursday game night crew will be at Dickey's BBQ on 6th from 6-10 pm! Usually, we post around monthly, but because our regular location is closed, we're updating here weekly until a new normal is settled!

What do we do? -- Meet up, bring some of our own board games, all types (as long as they ... mostly.. fit in the 4 hour window), and play them!

Where do we do it? -- used to be beer star, but it's closed, so now we're trying new places. This week, we'll be at Dickey's.

Okay, but when? 6pm to 10pm (yes, Dickey's has agreed ahead to be open that late).

What's the group like? We're mostly adults (upper 20's through ??), and a diverse and affirming group otherwise -- you are welcome to join us!

How do I join? Literally just show up, stick your head in a game that looks like it's starting and ask if there's space! Buuut if you're joining us the first time and are worried about it, you are WELCOME to interrupt me (the small redhead) and I can point you somewhere!

Thursday game night location this week: West End!

Hi all,

This week (8/6), the Thursday game night crew will be at West End Pub on 6th from 6-10 pm!

This week, we'll be at West End Pub. We'll probably be in the patio (??) area.

Okay, but when? 6pm to 10pm, though West End is open later, so we'll see if we stick around later!

What's the group like? We're mostly adults (upper 20's through ??), and a diverse and affirming group otherwise -- you are welcome to join us!

How do I join? Literally just show up, stick your head in a game that looks like it's starting and ask if there's space! Buuut if you're joining us the first time and are worried about it, you are WELCOME to interrupt me (the small redhead) and I can help you get acquainted!

(Side note. I'm gonna be real, everyone I talked to liked Dystopian last week--we had a 30+ person turnout with no reported negative experiences and many reported positive ones, and I asked a variety of folks--so if that was a place you really could not stand but you want to continue to be a part of this group, please come this week and we can chat; I'd hate to alienate anyone, and I'd like to hear your voice.)

Thursday Game Night Pivot!

Hi and thanks to the folks who passed on the information that Beer Star is closed!

If you're a regular at game night, or you've always wanted to join, this week (7/30) we're going to try Dystopian State brewing instead!

(curious about game night? here's info! We meet up and play board games from 6-10.)

Next week, we'll likely try a different location (until we're confident we're happy with our new spot), but haven't yet confirmed with the owners, so keep an eye out for a post next week if you plan to join!

Looking for an evening of fun and maybe also new friends? Try board games at beer star, tonight@6!

Hi everyone!

Those of you who have been here a while may remember that there used to be semi-frequent posts about board games happening every Thursday 6-10 pm at Beer Star!

The posting slowed down -- the post-er was busy and can't come as often -- but I have her blessing to take up the torch (slowly, sorry!), and so here I am!

Basically, what happens? Members of the community bring their own games. We share them, our only ask is that you try to respect them and try to put them back where you got them :) The big games usually start between 6-7 since that makes it substantially more likely we'll finish them, but other new games start throughout the night; and whenever one game wraps up, people will shuffle around to find another.

THIS MONTH: I have had requests for a theme night, so: JULY 23 is the night! It's not only national sprinkle day it's also national refreshment day and--get this--national gorgeous grandma day, so channel your inner grandma and let's bring some baked goods together!

Some FAQs:

Minors? Not explictly disallowed, but not encouraged, as we primarily use the back area that's adult only and don't shy away from adult topics in our conversations.

Ages? Most of us are late 20's and up. We're primarily people in our 30s but we have a large age range and I am not going to guess at the age of our oldest members :P
