Lines / Slots in Brick?

In the process of having our Brick steps replaced. Some of you may remember my previous posts asking about suggestions. We love the brick we chose, and it seems the mason is almost done (brick is all set, but that is just in looking at it as a homeowner. Also, earlier in the week he mentioned coming back to "clean them" when everything was all done). My question is, I see many of the brick have a line or slot in them, in the middle. My guess is it's in the manufacturing as its a perfect slot, almost like a shallow saw cut. Since these are outdoor steps, I am concerned about moisture getting in them and blowing the brick apart over the summers / winters (we are in NJ). Is this a potential concern? Do brick get sealed after install to prevent this? I plan to ask the mason as well, when he comes back, but I wanted unbiased opinions. Thanks in advance.

Update Will and Trusts

Hi everyone. I just recently found this page. My MIL was diagnosed coming up on two years ago. She had a will and trust set up prior to that. When she first got diagnosed, we (my wife and I) went with her to the lawyer's office to update everything as well as get POA's done. My wife's name is also on the checking account, and my name is on the investment account. Over the last two years, it's been a slow decline until recently. We had to take away her driving privileges a few months ago, get food delivered, etc. As her memory is getting worse, and she's getting more and more repetitive, I've started to wonder if we should be re-visiting the will and POA and do anything further. In your experience, is there anything that we should be updating on the will and POA? I've tried reaching out for the attorney that did everything, and he's unresponsive. This was also the case when I called him a few months ago about some financial questions that the investment advisor suggested I contact the attorney about. When I call the attorney's office, the secretary is very friendly, and then it's "oh let me see if he's available. Oh, he's not available at the moment, let me put you into his voicemail so you can leave a message and he'll call you back". Then no return call. He's part of a practice, so I don't know if I should ask for another attorney with the practice.

Also, my wife and I did our wills shortly after my MIL was diagnosed. If my MIL's attorney is unresponsive, what is the reality of moving the will, POA's, and trust over to our attorney. If I need to change attorney's for her stuff, I would rather it all be under the same attorney as we are using so that it's less complicated.

Thanks in advance for any input you can provide.

My clover lawn freshly mowed.

Have to say, I am really embracing the clover lawn. We are in NJ where we have drought restrictions, more so in my are as we are a farm area, so watering the lawns isn't a priority compared to crops. My lawn is nice and thick and I'm compliments on it. Of course my wife and daughter are teasing me about how much I love it. The sign is one my daughter made for a half marathon I ran a couple of weeks ago. 🤣🤣

My slice of heaven

Moved into this home coming up on two years ago. Previous home was a very small property that had sprinklers and i constantly treated. This home is more out in the country and much larger (just under 2 acres), and I realized how much better all around it was to just be happy with a natural green lawn. This year the clover took over and is spreading.

Suggestions?

Hello everyone,

Purchased this home coming up on two years ago. The front brick steps are flaking apart daily and I want to replace them. I'm told it's about 750 brick. The house was originally red brick and then the front was painted off white, and the steps painted white / black. My goal was to hire a mason to put black brick in and not red and repaint. However I keep coming up short on finding the brick. I've been to all the local masonry / brick supply yards. Three times I thought i found the brick we wanted (color wise). The first two times I was told they're out of stock and wouldn't be available till the end of summer. The third time my mason told me that they're hollow core and we need solid. Any thoughts or suggestions? Should we just do red solid brick and have it painted (I'm assuming there's a correct way to paint brick)? Thanks in advance for any insight.
