I'm frustrated. I've recently restarted this game after getting to hr on a previous save a few years ago, and now I'm stuck on the 3 star Nibelsnarf quest. I've beaten this monster before, I know I can do it, but I've failed twice and it's just awful. I failed a Hammer hunt then spent 25 minutes with SnS, used all of my potions and quit in frustration. I don't know what to do, I don't know how to learn to beat it.

I've searched it up everywhere, it's always the same advice about the gimmick. I complete the gimmick, I fish it out, I get some hits in, but then whenever I place down another barrel bomb it eats it but doesn't explode. I don't know why this happens.

It would be fine if I felt like I was making any progress, but I don't. It feels like a meaningless time sink. Nibelsnarf has an unreasonable amount of HP and it can kill me from 2 hits when I'm at 75% hp, with no reasonable counterplay besides constantly healing to full, which leads to wasting potions and getting more frustrated.

I just feel insecure about having so much trouble with a monster that I *know* I can beat, that I *know* shouldn't be this hard, but I've wasted an hour without any progress on. The HP pool just feels utterly ridiculous.

I don't know what to do. I hate this hunt. I'm annoyed. I want to get better at this game, I don't know how. I've watched tutorials and read guides but nothing seems to matter.

EDIT: i did it, using guild hammer. took nearly half an hour but i did it. i think my biggest issues with this fight are the health pool and the strange gimmicks.

by the time i got it limping, it was 25 minutes on the dot. i felt like i got hits in during my openings (usually charge lvl 1 -> the followup, or charge lvl 2) but it took so damn long and whenever I'd go for more I'd get punished for it, usually after the bite. a lot of the attacks feel like they position the head outside of reach, and whenever my hammer would drop below green i bounced off the body which made that frustrating.

the gimmicks are also weird. i got it to blow up twice in 2 separate dash attacks, but then it ate 2 bombs without blowing up another time. the fishing minigame also feels stupid, i got interrupted by a hermitaur once and another it just didn't work despite mashing all 4 buttons on the right + the left joystick. if someone could let me know a better method to do this reliably or the timings for sonic bombs that would be a great help.

overall i don't hate this fight, but it's poorly designed for low rank. i feel like it would've fit better in village 4 star considering just how damn long it takes to kill, but it's whatever.

thanks to everybody who commented, i should've taken more time to upgrade my gear because that really was the biggest difference. live and learn, i guess. fuck you nibelsnarf.
