Is there a UK market for proper Japanese tatami, or is this too niche?”

I lived in Japan for two years and fell in love with tatami. I brought a few tatami mats back to the UK and interested in how tatami can work in an English home.

Just a few mats on the floor can change how a space feels. It sounds a little cliche.. but it literally grounds you.

It could be a place for drinking, eating, reading, stretching, meditation, conversation, or simply sitting on the floor in a way that feels natural.

Rather than a traditional Japanese room, i am imagining a small platform or square area where the tatami creates a threshold. A different kind of space. A softer space. A more attentive space.

I put a few photos together to show what i mean. https://tatamibath.carrd.co

would you use Japanese tatami mats?

how would you explain this idea to people?

do you want to help? 😃 The big plan would be to import a container of tatami from traditional manufacturer in Tokyo.
