very low night stand next to my futon wanted

Hey friends,

I sleep on a japanese futon on tatami mats, and I want to put a very low (japandi) night stand next to it, so I can keep my tissues, glasses & bottle next to me without just putting it on the floor and having to tidy up every single morning.

How do you guys do it??

Sadly I cannot for the life of me find anything close to what I'm looking for... Can you guys share your wisdom please?

- low nightstand (<40cm)

- closed design (drawer)

- does not have be too spacious

Also if anyone has some other idea what to do about my issues I'd apprechiate your input :D

How I Accidentally Lived Without Furniture (For 8 Years)

How did it start for you? Were you the kid who always felt more comfortable on the floor and just never "grew out of it"? Did you give a floor desk or floor sleeping a try and expand the concept? Did you read about the idea in a book or see a YouTube video? I'd love to know!

Floor sofas vs mould

I've recently made the transition to my first floor sofa, which is two thin IKEA mattresses stacked on top of one another with backing cushions, kind of like a middle eastern majlis sofa. When elderly relatives visit I add some old sofa cushions on top to get the height up.

I'm really enjoying the flexibility of being able to adjust the seating arrangement how I like - often I have both mattresses out flat to create a large soft surface to sit on, but I can also put everything away if I choose. The only issue is that I have mattresses flat on the carpet, and this is guaranteed to cause mould issues in the long term. I'm never going to remember to pick the bottom mattress up as often as I should.

How are people mould-proofing their floor sofas? Putting a tatami underneath seems like it will just put off the inevitable problem, and having extra height there will also make it harder to pull out into a larger lounging surface. You can get raised platforms for majlis and Moroccan-style seating, but I'm a bit loath to add fixed furniture back into the space when I've only just got rid of it. Do I maybe just put a plastic sheet under and call it good?

Also, I'm interested to know if anyone has used a majlis in real life. They seem like a very cool upgrade to my current setup! What are they like to use in person?

Side sleeping

So, i have been sleeping on a standing futon mattress for several years. It is kind of perfect. I slept a couple of nights on my sister's tempurpedic mattress and i hated it. I actually prefer it decently firm. However, my mattress got moldy and i need to replace it asap. I am poor (like minimum wage) so im trying to not spend a ton. I spent about an hour and a half sleeping on my yoga mat (1 inch thick foamy material) but it hurt my shoulder.

So, has anyone made this transition to something like the zonli floor futon, which i understand is less firm, and been okay with it?
