Would anyone like to feature a photo of their pecan tree(s) as the sub's banner?

I'd love to give someone(s) here the opportunity to have their tree(s)/farm featured in the community's banner! If more than one person would like to be featured, I'll switch out photos monthly until we've switched out all submitted, and then put to a vote which one stays up permanently. See Reddit's image sizes for what works, upload to imgBB and set the link to expire "after 2 weeks", and send me Mod Mail with your link or drop it in the comments below. The winner of a permanent banner will have recognition in the sidebar.

Additional guidelines:

  • Make sure the photo is [OC] - original content. I'll perform a quick search to verify.
  • If you use Canva to add a watermark, please make sure that it isn't overwhelming.
  • Submit a max of three (3) photos for rotation.

Ok, that's it. I'll leave this open for the entire month of July. Show us what you've got!

As soon as I put up my stuff - she reclaims her spot

Floor desks at just the right height under windows are excellent cat traps. Anyone else pack up everything at the end of a work day? I use my tables for eating, entertaining, and as a work table for my studio, too. Do you have a permanent setup or do you force your desk into other purposes too?

‘It’s a scam’: Americans express unease over SpaceX’s influence on retirement savings

From the article: "Stephen, a 33-year-old engineer from Michigan, shares his unease and describes his disgust over the growing influence of tech companies over retirement savings.

“I think that the amount is absolutely ridiculous and untethered to the company’s actual value,” he said. “I think it’s abhorrent that my savings and retirement funds are tied so intricately to these tech companies, especially when they cannot be held accountable by investors.”

Similar concerns were raised by Matt Reynolds, a 57-year-old professor based in eastern Washington, who worries both about his financial future and the influence of tech moguls.

“As someone looking to retire in the next five to 10 years, I’m alarmed at big tech’s market consolidation and its impact on my savings and investments. As a human being, I’m distraught that these companies all seem to be run by people with little accountability or moral compass,” he said. “How and why do my finances have to be bound to a racist, narcissistic, baby man who does not seem to care about other human beings? Everything about this is wrong.”

Who will be left holding the bag when this all blows up? The very people who can't afford to.

Ex-prosecutor warns women's right to vote may be next on chopping block: 'Handmaid's Tale'

Just read this article and this part stood out to me - "Vance pointed to a clip compiled by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in which other attendees voiced similar views. One young woman explained that as a Christian, she and her husband "are one flesh" and vote the same way, so she would be fine giving up her vote because "he would represent me well." Another said her daughter wouldn't need the vote because she would marry "a godly man."

I know there's no voting in Gilead but I wonder if we'll ever hear about or see a flashback about when these types of decisions were being made. THT showed June losing her job and having her bank account frozen, and we saw Emily's marriage declared invalid. I wonder if we'll hear from Paula more about women's rights being taken away since she's already slipped in her former profession and brought up her prom dress. Am I forgetting any other scenes in either series that talks about women's rights in the beginnings of Gilead?

Trump threatens to pull unemployment benefits from all states for the first time in history

Ah yes. In a shrinking economy where businesses are closing and layoffs are happening, flipping the unemployment benefits switch to "OFF" should do the trick.
