BIG year ahead for Tatum and Boston

Finally have this card! I saw this on a Instagram page ages ago and have wanted one ever since. Such a cool set, and severely underrated imo. Great auto as well. It’s a BIG year for Tatum, and the Celtics and I can’t wait to see how it goes… if he’s not already a Bostonian legend, this year could consolidate that for him

Underrated Kobe

Some underrated Kobe coming at you… 2012-13 Panini Marquee. Nice card stock, gorgeous under the light and a nice clean design. Early Panini stuff can get overlooked so this was fun to discover and add to my collection.

A divisive addition to the PC

KD is a bit of a divisive character in the NBA with his perceived team hopping and ring chasing, and I have toyed with adding him to my PC for a while. As you can see, I gave in because frankly he is one of my favourite players to watch! Top 5 all time scorer in terms of ability, league and finals MVP, 2x champion twitter / x protagonist and more recently, staunch advocate of the WNBA. This card is absolutely gorgeous and the auto is clean af, so was an easy decision in choosing this particular card to represent KD in my collection. I wonder what his hobby legacy will look like post career?

Blank slate, before blank slates?

Saw this card randomly whilst searching for something else on eBay and couldn’t believe how cool it looked, plus how cheap! Was £6 and I think it’s one of my favourite buys. It obviously reminds me of the blank slate case hits but love the hint of border colour! So cool, and I am going to be going after more of these. What was you your last ‘great discovery??

Binder additions from cardcon UK

Some beautiful low end, super affordable and great looking KGs to add to the binder! Really enjoying putting a binder together of my favourite players, especially guys from the 90,s and 00s… it’s like there weren’t any bad cards back then🤣

Mamba’s heavenly birthday

Happy 48th birthday Kobe! I’ve never really thought about it, but being the same age as Kobe probably has a lot to do with why I’m drawn to collect him. Here are some of my favourite Kobes along with my favourite drawing of him to celebrate his 48th

Is this Kobes best rookie card?

I love the Topps, as well as the Flair Showcase, but the design of these cards has always felt special to me. I have read in a couple of places that as the chrome is now so out of reach financially for so many, that this is becoming considered as the de-facto, affordable, rookie of Kobe. What does the world of Reddit think?

Gorgeous Gallery

As you can see, I am in a bit of a Tim Duncan kick at the moment. He is in so many great sets so I am having a blast! I have a lot of really nice Pippen and Garnett 90s inserts so I don’t want to duplicate if I can help it… which is why i immediately hit bin on this when I saw it. I have not come across this set before but it is absolutely beautiful! It is hard to photograph, but it’s gorgeous in hand!

The Big Fundamental… top 5?

The Big Fundamental 2000 Topps certified autograph. I have wanted this start a PC of Duncan pretty much since I entered the hobby, and the opportunity finally presented itself. I kicked things off with this beautiful auto from an iconic set. Tim Duncan was the model of consistency throughout his career, and is pretty unmatched in terms of winning and championships in the modern era… he is up there with Jordan and Kobe in terms of impacting one franchise so drastically, and it’s my pleasure to own a tiny piece of his history with this piece. Some people think he was boring, but I can never comprehend how winning 5 chips could be boring. He played the right way, with passion and skill and in my opinion is a top 10 ever, easily… maybe even top 5 - where would you rate him?

Nice little mail day today….

Also got some nice 90s inserts and some KDs to start a new side PC with this auto. Duncan is beautiful and the Kobe is clean af on the front, with a slight ding on the back, hence the low grade. Really happy with the Gallery of Heroes too… never seen it before until last month. What’s your latest discovery??

UD Black Paul Pierce auto

UD Black has very quickly become one of my favourite sets. Especially the autos with the silver pen matching the holo foil… absolutely beautiful. Paul Pierce is super affordable too which works well for me

Black beauty…

I have been a UD Black admirer from afar for a long time, but have finally pulled the trigger on a couple of beautiful Paul Pierce autos in the last month. Here is the first, which pairs beautifully with my quad patch. Pierce is a device media character but his knowledge is unquestionable, as was the way he played - all heart, maximising his talent and being the Celtics de facto leader. These are just a few of the reasons I love collecting him… he is in so many great 00’s sets too. Who do you collect and why?

Love Flair Showcase. Kobe Bryant

Another classic and affordable Kobe… 1998-99 Flair Showcase no.32. Great action shot, looks great under the light and I just think this whole card is a vibe. The afro, the dunk, the attitude and the colours. Pure 90s, and Kobe on the cusp of greatness. As I said in a previous post, determined to show how you can pick up really great looking Kobe cards affordably.

I think I have an acetate problem…

Or a 90s insert problem… either way I am happy. Kobe Bryant 1998-99 Skybox E-X Century - such a cool card, and great under light. Colours really pop and the photography is amazing too. Another pretty affordable Kobe insert to add to my collection. Any other tips about what to add ???

Great Kobe cards don’t have to be expensive

Collect what you like they say… collecting Kobe CAN be super expensive though, but there are great looking cards out there that don’t cost the earth. I love this 1997-98 Skybox EX2001, looks great under light, amazing action shot and very very cool colours. I’ve enjoyed collating a really nice selection of Kobes all on what I would consider a normal budget. If you do wanna collect Kobe and don’t have unlimited funds, i’m hoping my posts here will serve as some sort of inspiration

It kind of bends my mind these cards are only 16 years apart…

I know it’s obviously logical, but I can’t believe how time flies. Kobes rookie being 30 years old just feels crazy to me. Think of all the cards made since then… I think I’m having a mid life freak out. (Not a crisis, done that already🤣)

Weird, but fundamentally cool card

Saw this on eBay for $80 and had to grab it… a low numbered game worn patch card of Tim Duncan… never seen this set before but I thought the patch was super cool and the card itself just looked really different. 2004 Fleer Hardcourt Tributes, Tim Duncan. What’s your favourite ‘weird’ card??

u/tatum_pip_collector — 4 months ago

He is not sexy, but he is big and clever. The Big Fundamental

The Big Fundamental, Tim Duncan on the 1999 Fleer Skybox Generation E-X. A new PC chase for me, and loving this as a starting point - where does Tim rank all time?

High on High Voltage

The very first card i brought getting back into this hobby was the Kevin Garnett NBA Hoops High Voltage… a nice entry point for me. One of my favourite players, from my favourite era, really good looking card, and super affordable. Fast forward 18 months and I have finally paired it with a Pippen! would be good to get the Kobe one day and match them all up. Great card, and looks super cool under lights. What’s your favourite, best looking but affordable card / set?

u/tatum_pip_collector — 4 months ago

High on high velocity

Scottie Pippen High Velocity… could you BE more 90s (said in Chandler Bing voice). The Kevin Garnett of this set was one the first cards I ever owned, so really pleased to add one of my main man Pip. Such a cool design, and looks great under the light. And VERY 90s, and VERY affordable. What’s the best looking, most affordable 90s insert? This has to be in with a shout.
