Has Louisiana ever publicly recalled a medical cannabis product?

Louisiana medical cannabis has been sold to patients since 2019.

I’ve been trying to find a single state-mandated public recall of a Louisiana medical cannabis product since the program began, and I haven’t been able to find one.

That raises a question for me.

Has Louisiana really gone roughly seven years without a single product reaching patients that later warranted a public recall?

Or does Louisiana simply not have the same kind of transparent public recall system patients see in other medical cannabis states?

LDH says batches are tested before reaching retailers, and I understand that. But testing before sale and having a functioning post-market recall system are two different safeguards.

Why are restaurant inspectors regulating weed?

Is the Bureau of Sanitarian Services the right regulatory structure for a pharmaceutical-like botanical product that requires specialized expertise in cannabis cultivation, analytical chemistry, toxicology, pesticides, heavy metals, microbiology, remediation and post-market surveillance.

Does the regulator have enough cannabis-specific scientific expertise, independence and transparency to oversee that system effectively?

If anyone knows of an actual Louisiana medical cannabis recall, please post the state notice, date, product and batch/lot number. I genuinely want to see it.

And if there has never been one, shouldn’t Louisiana patients have a publicly searchable recall and safety-alert page?

Does anyone else get this much wet/oily residue in their pipe after only one day of smoking flower?

This pipe was clean, and this is the residue after about one day of smoking cannabis flower.

I know normal cannabis smoke leaves behind resin/tar, but this seems unusually wet and oily to me. I’m curious whether other Louisiana medical cannabis patients see the same thing.

If you smoke flower from a pipe, especially Louisiana dispensary flower, what does yours look like after a day of use?

Is it this wet/oily, or mostly dry/sticky black resin?

If anybody has a freshly used pipe and doesn’t mind dropping a picture in the comments, I’d really like to compare.

I’m also looking for an independent analytical lab around Lafayette that could test a residue sample for things like heavy metals/inorganic elements and potentially other contaminants.

If anyone works in analytical chemistry or knows a lab that accepts unusual consumer samples, please point me in the right direction.

I’m not claiming the residue is contaminated. I’d rather have it analyzed and know what’s actually there than speculate from a photograph.

Louisiana’s New Cannabis Law Is Now in Effect. Most People Haven’t Read the Fine Print.

As of August 1, Louisiana’s new school zone cannabis law (Act 305 / HB 568) is officially in effect.

I read the actual legislation instead of relying on headlines.

The screenshots show:
• The law enhances penalties for certain marijuana offenses committed while smoking or vaping within 2,000 feet of a school, college, school bus, or other covered school property.

• The enhanced penalty can be up to one year in jail and a $1,000 fine.

• Louisiana’s medical marijuana statute also states that qualified Louisiana medical cannabis patients are exempt from the underlying marijuana provision referenced by this law.

Whether you support or oppose this policy, everyone should know what changed. My biggest concern is that people who don’t realize they’re in a school zone, or visitors who aren’t covered by Louisiana’s medical program, could face serious criminal penalties for a nonviolent offense.

I’m sharing the relevant sections of the law so people can read them for themselves.

If you think I’ve misunderstood anything, point me to the specific statute and let’s discuss it.

Acadiana Myco Free Mushroom Growing Workshop

On Saturday, July 18, Acadiana Myco hosted a free hands on mushroom growing workshop at the South Regional Library in Lafayette.
We had 32 people attend, with folks driving in from Baton Rouge, New Orleans, St. Martinville, Jennings, Maurice, and other parts of south Louisiana. Everyone went home with the knowledge to grow their own oyster mushrooms, but the best part of the day was watching people who had never met before connect, ask questions, share ideas, and build new friendships.
A huge thank you to everyone who volunteered, donated supplies, and came out to support the event. Seeing a room full of people excited to learn about fungi was something special, and hopefully it’s just the beginning.
If you’re interested in mushrooms, whether you’re a first time grower or you’ve been at it for years, we’d love to have you join us at a next Acadiana Myco meeting on July 28th at Lafayette South Regional Library

Louisiana has an amazing mushroom community. Here’s a look at the GSMS Summer Foray in Kisatchie National Forest. 🍄

Hundreds of fungi can be found in Kisatchie National Forest. Members of the Gulf South Mycological Society spend each year documenting Louisiana’s fungal diversity through forays like this one. Here are a few highlights from this year’s event.

HB 568 was signed into law. Am I reading this correctly that Louisiana medical marijuana patients are exempt while non-patients can face up to a year in jail?

HB 568 has officially been signed into law as Act 305.
I’m trying to understand how this will work in practice.

The bill applies to people who violate R.S. 40:966 through 970 while smoking, vaping, or otherwise consuming cannabis within 2,000 feet of a school, college, school bus, or school-related property.

But R.S. 40:966 also states:
“Any person who is a patient of the state-sponsored medical marijuana program in Louisiana… shall be exempt from the provisions of this Section.”

The penalty section of HB 568 provides for up to one year in jail and a fine.

So if I’m reading this correctly:
Medical marijuana patient = exempt from the underlying statute
Non-patient = potentially subject to the enhanced penalty.

Am I missing something, or is that how the law is written?

Louisiana joined the cannabis rescheduling lawsuit and then withdrew. What changed?

Last week Louisiana joined a lawsuit challenging the federal government’s cannabis rescheduling decision. Now Attorney General Liz Murrill has withdrawn the state from the case.

I’m curious what changed between joining the lawsuit and withdrawing from it a few days later.

Was it legal strategy, political pressure, concerns about Louisiana’s medical cannabis program, or something else?
