Getting a job in another state

I’m in the process of relocating to Oregon from New York, but I need to have a job lined up first before I move so I don’t have exact moving dates. I took my current location off of my resume and put the new location with (Relocating) next to it. However most of my education/work history reflects my current location so I’m not sure that would even make a difference. I’m also running into trouble with the actual applications asking me for my location. If I put my current location I know that I’ll most likely be screened out by the system for not being local, but if I put in the new location I know I’ll risk being called for an in-person interview, and I obviously can’t do that. I’ll be prepared to pack up and go upon getting an offer, but I would still need at least 3 weeks before starting so I can put in a notice my current job and get my move lined up. Any tips on how to navigate this? Or just general advice on getting hired for a position out of state?

Tips for working with agencies

I’m planning to move out of state (to the Portland, OR area) and am currently on the job hunt. I’ve been applying to both direct job listings and staffing agencies. I feel like I’d be better off using agencies since the market is so tough, and I’m trying to move as soon as I can and plan to relocate once I secure a job. I also feel like the assistance would be helpful since I’m not local so I’m not as familiar with the market there. I’m looking for a job in marketing/communications or something in that realm. I’d also prefer direct-hire since I need a steady income before I move. I guess I’d be okay with temp to hire, but that just makes me nervous bc being hired afterwards isn’t guaranteed. Has anyone had success being placed with specific agencies? What are some good agencies that place in marketing/communications related roles specifically? Did it take more or less time using an agency vs direct applying? Any tips for talking with agency recruiters and keeping yourself on their radar? This is my first time using agencies in a job search so I’ll take any advice. Thanks!

Resale options

I have 2 extra tickets to the September 12th show in Saratoga Springs since I ended up getting better seats. I saw that the ticket barcode will be available 3 days prior to the event - does that mean ticket transfer/resale should open up then too?? I don’t want these tickets to go to waste but I’m also weary of selling them on Ticketmaster (even though it’s face value resale) because I know they tend to inflate the price of resale tickets and add extra fees, etc. and I also would like to get back the full amount I originally paid and I know Ticketmaster takes a nice cut when you resell through them. I’d rather just sell them on my own and transfer them if at all possible, but I know resale is super strict this tour. Does anyone have an idea of how all of this may go? I really don’t want to lose out on these tickets or my money but I also don’t want to take advantage of anyone when selling them!

Does anybody want to meet up at the CNE?

I’m driving up to Toronto from the states to see Lights at the CNE next weekend, but I’m going to be alone. I’ve never been to a Lights show by myself before and I’d love to meet up with people and make some new friends when I’m there if I could

Job market?

I (25F) am planning to relocate to the Portland area from Western New York, hopefully this fall if I can (I’m aware it may take longer though). I do have a part time job based in Portland (part of the reason for the move, and why I’m trying get out here asap), but I do need to secure either a second part time job or a full time job before I relocate. What does the market look like in the area? In what places/industries am I likely to find a decent paying job? I have years of customer service experience and I also have a Bachelors and MBA in marketing management. My current part time job is in digital/social media marketing.
My main constraints with a job are:

  1. I have chronic illnesses so any job that’s too physical will send me into a bad flare, so I’m trying to avoid that.
  2. Considering my chronic illnesses, good benefits are a huge deal for me. Or, if the job doesn’t have the benefits, I need to be able to afford decent healthcare outside of that.
  3. Obviously I need to be able to pay my bills, and I know the cost of living is high, especially compared to where I live now. I will definitely have roommate(s) and I don’t want to be completely strapped financially.

I’d appreciate any insight on this and honestly just any other advice on moving/living in the area. TIA! :)
