What do I need to know about cowboy camping in GA?

I’m looking forward to cooler weather and interested in doing some cowboy camping, but honestly somewhat worried… mostly about bugs. Where I grew up there were no ticks (but I think those subside in the fall?) and no millipedes.

What advice, warnings, or tips should I know?!

I will probably still bring my tent, or maybe just the fly and ground sheet as my tents can be pitched fly first, so should be covered for rain if it happens.

Thank you!

(Two night backpacking loops you like would also appreciated! 7-12 miles a day)

Edit: I’ll probably still use a tent here.

Chemists are upset about the lack of history their logo design

The American Chemical Society celebrated its 150th Anniversary by “updating” their logo. At least one person was upset enough to form a petition. It is an interesting perspective downstream from graphic design, highlighting the importance of thoughtful design and staying true to the history of the organization.

Starter powder like Noosa

Hi everyone!

I’ve been making yogurt for about a year now, always using Noosa as starter (for what it’s worth, I HATE Chobani, it tastes musty to me).

I love the yogurt I make, probably because I use whole milk and add a 1/4 cup of powdered cream to every quart, but I’m thinking about getting an heirloom starter and try that, but there are so many of them!

I know I don’t want anything “ropey” and tend to do a short ferment because I don’t like it too tangy.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a starter that could be good… I know it will be an investment and a choice that may last a while. I figure I may as well ask here, since yall are the experts!

Thanks in advance!

What’s an acceptable bike lane hazard?

The new bike lane on W Peachtree St NW at Peachtree Place NE (essentially 9th St) has this below pavement level (probably 2+ inches deep, although difficult to see in the photo) that is IN the intersection and right before a crosswalk.

It kind of pops up out of nowhere at a bottom of a hill while bicyclists are navigating lots of bus, car, and pedestrian traffic and it is not highlighted as a hazard in any manner.

Seems as though the people who striped the road were semi-impeded by it, as the rectangle is not full, but I’m surprised there is no other highlighting that it needs fixing (on Peachtree St between 10th and 12th streets, there are some low points in the pavement with a dotted outline around it, likely highlighting a need for fixing in the near future).

So A) I’m hoping to alert people who bike to this and B) solicit feedback if this IS legitimately something that is considered acceptable and not hazardous- seemingly someone saw this and didn’t think it was a problem.

Second time finding this bug inside!

Looking for an ID for this bug that I’ve found for the second time in my bathroom.

Hoping it’s something harmless.

In Georgia, USA.

TIA!
